They started life pretty much like any other human legs - sprouting from a bean-shaped thing in some strange slimy broth. But once they were exposed to air, they needed independence.
"We are sorry," they told the infant girl to whom they'd come attached. "We cannot be tied down. We cannot live your straight suburban life. We must strike out on our own and explore the world and have adventures."
So the little legs toddled off into the woods and beheld many things. They did not need a body or a brain. They took sustenance directly from the earth and air, and stood side by side with trees for hours and sometimes days on end, growing.
When they had achieved their full height, the legs set off for the city, where they explored many things, and had adventures. Once, they even swung from a trapeze at a circus. Even though the sight of them, all on their own, made people queasy and the circus had to promise to never show the independent legs again.
That was fine with the legs. They had things to do. They lived long. They had their day. Their time came and went.
Now they sit alone in a dusty room, propped on a cardboard box, looking out a window. They don't go out any more. They just sit. And that's okay. These days, the simple warmth of sun along their length is all they need.
Not only do Killdeer hatchlings come out of the egg with almost adult-sized legs and feet, but they are also already quite adept at using them. Along the auto tour road at Brazoria National Wildlife Refuge near Oyster Creek, Texas.
Op 25 maart was de 6002 van RXP eerst bezig met het laden van een NIAG kolentrein bij de Nieuwe Rietlanden. Aansluitend ging het locje voor HSL een lege UN 1179 keteltrein plaatsen bij GPS.
Even na 15.00 komt RXP 6002 over de brug bij de Aziëhaven met het eerste deel van de keteltrein. Even later werd het tweede deel opgepikt en naar GPS gebracht, beide delen werden getrokken geplaatst.

An afternoon wasted in creating this and it's a bit OTT!
My leg is doing better and isn't so painful now, thanks everyone for your concern.
One from a quick drive out to Morecambe in the hope of a bit of a moody sunset. It clouded over well before the sun went down, but I donned my wellies and tramped out over the mud and sands, as the tide was well out.
There are a few old fishing boats here on the beach and I saw this boat with "Art" written on the side and some mannikins legs sticking out of the top.Someone with a sense of humour.
The old chain looked interesting as a lead in and I thought it was worthy of a shot. Whilst the sky did lack the sunset colour, the moody conditions certainly helped.
i lost my flash difusser to the river just b4 this shot..excuse for the bright spot on the forehead....

I only noticed once I was editing the photo but this bird only has one leg! Is he hiding the other one or did he have an unfortunate accident?
Three more from our latest visit to Florida. This bird and I spend a lovely time in Odessa woods, Florida. it was looking for lunch (and finding bugs) among the flooded weeds. I was enjoying watching and shooting it. View Large, not the water droplets...

The final leg of a grand day out: Class 86/1 No. 86101 'Sir William A Stanier FRS' rushes through Lichfield Trent Valley at the head of the Inter City's 1Z87, 0035 London Euston - Crewe in the early hours of 12th March 2026. Earlier, D9000 'Royal Scots Grey' had worked the Euston to Crewe and return legs of the tour, which fed into the 'Cumbrian Mountaineer' hauled by A4 No. 60007 'Sir Nigel Gresely' from Crewe to Carlisle and back over Shap.
