Achieved through editing choices such as jingles and slogans, in ‘The UK’s Only Official Chart Show’ listeners are persuaded to feel like they really are listening to the ‘the best in new music’.
Additionally, scripting choices, such as the use of the second person pronoun ‘this is your number one album’ directly addresses the listeners, involving them in the show. The show’s gossipy angle appeals to female audiences. The affective response is familiarizing both male and female
The show relies on the UK’s pop music culture and the related practice of purchasing music. Some audiences will listen actively to The Charts Show, for example, young teenagers. This is because the 15 to 30 target age group lets them know the singles and albums their peers are listening to. Through this we can see how the radio show exerts social influence.

On 8th May 2009 UK newspaper The Telegraph began publishing leaked details of the expense claims of British MPs in advance of their official publication. Over the following days each edition of The Telegraph brought new revelations about the ways in which public money was being used to maintain the lifestyle of politicians (e.g. pay off mortgages).
The story vividly demonstrates the power that the various media have to shape and influence the British political agenda. In fact, during May and June 2009, The Telegraph was completely in control of the political agenda as every other news story including the economic crisis and casualties in Iraq and Afghanistan played second fiddle to the unfolding drama in Westminster.
Looking at this story in a positive light, there is evidence of the print media functioning as the ‘fourth estate’ holding those who hold political power to account for their actions.From a more critical perspective it’s possible to argue that this kind of inquisitorial journalism is designed to provoke outrage in the public and in so doing creates a cynicism about the motivations of politicians and about the political process itself. Finally, we should also be mindful that the news and political agenda were seized by a media organization that acts for financial gain. Circulation for The Telegraph rose in the region of 100,000 copies as a result of this story.
The idea of ‘diversion’ relates to very familiar notions of escapism, fantasy, relaxation and so on that can be located around media use. Primary reasons why we may wish to listen to music may relate to pure pleasure or a desire to escape everyday life.

The owl in the rear is "standing tall" trying to make itself invisible and blend into the spruce tree. While this image does not show the surroundings well, the owl was actually succeeding quite well.
The owl in the front has turned its head and is focusing its facial discs and eyes on a deer mouse. Its body is much more round as its focus is not on hiding from people but on eating!
So - which one is female?
Whooo knows!
The Great Gray Owl expresses very little sexual dimorphism (differences); however, the female is larger. This is always hard to tell in the field as you need 2 owls to know which one is bigger (and hope that you get separate sexes!).
These owls are photographed in captivity (they have broken wings). Even in captivity it is difficult.
So I can not tell you their sexes!
While Great Gray Owls are not considered an endangered species. there is great concern about the loss of the Boreal Forest (their home):

We may use media forms as a basis for the way to act in personal situations. For instance, pop songs may teach us about the rules and rituals of romance and emotions, teen soaps about being an adolescent.
