We are forced by our surroundings to learn how to swim again and again. You think, you are done, but the waters seem to change, flow in an opposite direction than you expect or even creates maelstroms. The changes to our lives are constant. If you ask me, it is not better for any individual. You think you mastered floating around, but NO, life forces you to change from comfortable breaststroke to a powerful crawl. I have very little experience in photographing waterfalls because there are almost none in the area where I live. My attempts here made me realise how much I have to learn!

I keep using my textured photo of the female red winged blackbird because the warm brown tones make such a pleasing background. I started out making butterflies but this lovely girl emerged and demanded to be the star. I hoped she learned to fly.

This is what I’ll be missing over the next few days, classic north eastern storm weather. The sea’s are rough at the moment and soon to be very rough, it’s a strain to be sitting here at my desk but it has to be done, it’s a good job I took hundreds last year when I could. Here is one I took back in August at Seaham, I haven’t posted many from this session as I’ve tended to concentrate on my Roker photo’s, which I believe are some of the best I’ve taken to date. I continuing my learning curve with Photoshop and luminosity masks, I’m also starting to see a better mono conversion in Photoshop as well. Lightroom tends to go blotchy when you try to pull out those darker greys with the colour slides, in Photoshop that process seems more subtle. With more time on my hands on late I might as well booster my processing skills as my camera skills are going nowhere. If you have time count the seagulls

On January 27, 1945, Soviet troops entered the Auschwitz concentration camp and revealed a horror that the world may have sensed, but for too long had ignored. For this reason, in 2005, the United Nations chose this date as the International Day of Remembrance, dedicated to all the victims of the Holocaust.
Today, twenty-one years after that symbolic act, we must ask ourselves whether that memory is truly alive. It seems that humanity itself, including the descendants of those who were victims of that horror, has forgotten the horror of the Holocaust. New massacres and new wars continue to stain our present with blood.
The number of atrocities is so great that we risk becoming accustomed to them: they pass before our eyes and, within just a few days, they are forgotten. October 7th massacre of Israel people, Gaza genocide, Iran massacre of civilians, Ukraine war, the extermination of the Kurdish people, the civil wars in Somalia and Sudan are only some of the conflicts in which the first victims continue to be innocent civilians.
In many countries, authoritarianism is becoming the norm, while armed militias kill, arrest (often using children as baits) and deported people that are only guilty of being different or protesting in a pacific way the regime,.
The Holocaust Memorial in Berlin is a place that must be visited with deep respect, because it reminds us that history can repeat itself. It warns us that violence, carried out in the name of an ideal, an interest, or too often in the name of a god, is a tragic and enduring part of human nature.
To remember is not only an act of memory — it is a responsibility toward the future.

In molti Stati, inoltre, l’autoritarismo sta diventando la norma, mentre milizie armate uccidono, arrestano (spesso usando bambini come esca) e deportano impunemente persone la cui unica colpa e’ di apparire diversi o di protestare pacificamente contro il regime.
Il Memoriale dell’Olocausto di Berlino è un luogo che va visitato con grande rispetto, perché ci ricorda che la storia può ripetersi.
