a vintage '50s era sedan is the lead-in to the great old parts yard outside Bethany,MO.

His pack has made him "In Charge", all waiting for him to make the move...They trust him and happily follow 👑

Still on the Snowy Owl hunt day, we didn't see any, which was surprising and we wondered if the deeper snow pack this year had anything to do with it. The field mice and voles may have been too deep under the snow. Maybe someone with more knowledge about this can comment on that.

In any case, we saw a few other critters - including a number of Golden Eye ducks. They were very camera shy and flew off if we even looked their way. I tried for an in flight capture and managed to grab a couple of frames before they flew behind some trees. This one was the best of the lot as it was relatively sharp. The three ducks in trail are a bit too close to the right edge of the frame for my liking but I'll use the fact that I'm no bird photographer as an excuse. The title, leader of the pack, was the first thing that came to mind here.

The snowy egrets are just everywhere this year. This one has a tinge of the coppery color in his showy feathers but he's not a cattle egret. I think he's been playing the the mud just a little too often. I loved the way he was posing, probably trying to be the swan on the lake. Just had to take little artistic liberty with him this morning since I had a little time to call my own.

The Wolves Are Back

Part of a powerful exhibit titled "Are The Wolves Back?" in Berlin - a pack of bronze wolves stands for the neo-Nazis, nationalists and haters that terrorize German society so much more than the few wolf packs that are again roaming German woods (and are also controversial).

Rainer Opolka, the artist behind The Wolves Are Back says he wants to start a discussion. To him, we are getting way too used to racism and other ugly phenomenons we see in connection with the challenge of accomodating one million refugees in the country. “Many people see terrorism on TV and that makes them afraid,” says Opolka. “They don’t see the difference between the terrorists and the people who have escaped terrorism.”

So Jimmy is actually alive, well and living in Honolulu. The fate told in the classic Shangri-las tunes Leader of the Pack was mistaken.

Hawaii really was an amazing place, now I've been home for a couple of weeks it's time to go back. Although the bank balance says otherwise.

The very first instant shot of the new year, taken in the morning of Jan. 1st, 2017.

After taking this photograph, I let it to rest on my desk to develop and then completely forgot about it for the following 2 days due to various commitments and because I did not think much would come out of it. When yesterday evening I found it, still laying face-down, what a surprise!

I wish all gorillas could live in their natural habitat and not in Zoos.

Alpha Wolves maintain their rank by simple respect; which is granted by their ability to dominate other members of the pack in ritual combat. When one Wolf seeks to dominate, another challenge is made, and if the challenged Wolf does not submit a fight may result to determine which Wolf is superior. Repeatedly winning these contests results in a reputation within the pack, making the dominating Wolf the pack leader.

Amongst other books I bought my wife, I bought this.

Maybe not the most clever decision, because I don't think she really needs it, but still.

She's already a kinda executive director.

New info:

This wolf is submissive, not aggressive. In active submission, the entire body is lowered and the lips and ears are drawn back. The other wolf (click the link) is the dominated one, he has his ears up.
