Kalmia latifolia, commonly called mountain laurel, calico-bush, or spoonwood, is a broadleaved evergreen shrub in the heather family, Ericaceae, that is native to the eastern United States.

A lone tree in the ancient laurel forest of Fanal, Madeira. UNESCO World Heritage site.

You will find tight quarters around this beautifully shaped waterfall. Attempt to go early or late in the day to avoid the tremendous crowds of the Great Smokey Mountains National Park.

Spring in Great Smoky Mountains National Park brings brilliant colors, with deep green forests and bright pink and white mountain laurel.

 

As we celebrate Earth Day, I thought this image captured simply the beauty of nature without the distractions of man.

I used my new macro lens that I recently bought (nikkor lens dx 85).

 

Laurel is a vigorous shrub that is often used to provide garden screening, The leaves and berries are very poisonous.
