Also this subject, I have deepened again, and am still very excited.
What my main rig has evolved into. With the death of Windows PC, my MacBook is now my primary (in fact, only) computer. It still shares the desk with a lot of gear.
I just hooked up this brand new Samsung laserprinter/scanner/photocopier (SCX-4500).
It is fantastic. Sits right behind my iphone for service loveliness.
1. Install was dead simple.
2. Acts like a stand-alone copier... one button and viola!
3. One-touch scanning... auto save to desktop.
4. On-panel display is beautiful... big blue dots (like the Meta type face arrow) and a sleek blue light follows the copy action.
5. It's super quiet.
6. Form factor tiny.
7. Sexy x5. It's right behind Alec Baldwin on my to-do list.
What a bargain at $299.

To the left, the left channel speaker (part of my Altec Lansing FX6021 2.1 Speakers).
The front door is open and you can see two of the toner cartridges installed-- the black (up top) and the magenta at bottom. In the flap of the door is the transfer belt assembly.
As a regular user of this machine, this is about as far in as you would get.

Gestalter präsentieren damit ihren Kunden Entwürfe und Layouts mit elektronisch erstelltem Blindtext, Text und der originalen Headline in der Anmutung der später gesetzten und gedruckten Berthold-Schrift. On the following pages we will present 400 Berthold LayoutTypes, available for the Macintosh.
Designers make use of them when presenting roughs and layouts with electronically produced dummy text, text and the original headline, giving the same expression as the real Berthold typeface. All type sizes, line spaces, column widths, emphasis or changes of typefaces in the text will be defined on the screen without cutting or copying. In this way, the final product can be judged during the early stages of the design process.
Outlines of Berthold LayoutTypes have deliberately been kept fairly rugged without falsifying the type’s character. These faces have been specifically designed for layout purposes and laserprinter output.
(The production of quality camera-ready artwork can only be achieved on high-resolution film-recorders using high quality typefaces).

Red, Blue and Yellow are often thought of as the primary colors, or pigments, used in painting. In modern printing, however, the colors need to be specified a bit more technically as magenta, cyan, and yellow. Still, if you equally mix all three, you get black.
This image shows the toner cartridges of my color laser printer. By the way, the laser does not burn images into the paper, nor does it pick up toner to put on the paper. Instead it creates a negative image one line at a time on a photosensitive drum that is spinning inside each toner cartridge. The toner is applied to this negative image, then transferred to the paper.

Attempting the laser printer iron on process. I'm using one of the old Boy Scout backpacks I purchased as a testing ground.
From what I've read online (in the last day or two), the process of printing out a line art design with a laser printer on regular paper and ironing the design onto fabric is popular with fabric artists and cross-stitchers because it creates a faint yet visible pattern to follow.
My experiment suggests that for a dark, readily visible design the process, while marginally functional, is less than optimal.
Next experiment, once the materials arrive: inkjet iron-on transfer paper.
Did you know you can use essential oils to transfer prints from a laser printer or copier onto fabric, wood, or other materials? Orange oil seems to work best for this process. Pine and other evergreen oils have also been recommended, but I personally found better success with orange. Look at all of the pictures to see how it all works. The things you can do with this method are virtually endless! Use this method to create personalized aprons, totes, gift tags, gift bags, t-shirts, ribbons, and whatever else you can think of!

my favorite cyanotype solutions.
This is the doorway in and the closet. The closet did not have doors when I bought the house and adding them makes the room look smaller. We painted the room with a stripe all the way around the room including the closet. Inside the closet is the closetmaid system. I bolted into the studs so it can hold a ton. The home network jack is in the closet so the LaserPrinter lives there along with a wireless basestation to cover upstairs.
This is the circuit board behind the LCD display. The chip is the LCD controller.
