The final word in this week's theme "Eponyms" is pooh-bah, after Pooh-Bah, a government official in Gilbert & Sullivan’s 1885 operetta The Mikado. Pooh-Bah holds all the high offices of the state (except Lord High Executioner), including relating to complaints about himself. He is also known as the Lord High Everything Else. Earliest documented use: 1886.

Today's word is clicktivism, a blend of click, as in a mouse click + activism. Earliest documented use: 2006.
NOTES: Clicktivism can take many forms: signing an online petition, forwarding a message, sharing a posting, or changing the color or banner on one's website or social media in support of a cause, and so on. Clicktivism is sometimes derided as slacktivism (slack + activism). It's seen as putting in minimal effort and getting a sense of doing something and feeling good about it, instead of getting involved deeply with a cause. While the criticism can be justified, clicktivism is better than doing nothing and, at least, it raises awareness.

Today's word is festoon, from French feston, from Italian festone, from festa (festival), from Latin festa, plural of festum (festival). Earliest documented use, noun: 1676, verb: 1789.

Today's word is gowk. Cuckoos don't get no respect. Don't know what this fine bird did to deserve such opprobrium. The bird isn't known to stare awkwardly either. Sure, it lays eggs in others' nests, but that doesn't count as foolishness. It may have something to do with its monotonous call.
If you were ever sent on a gowk hunt, you have been had. Or maybe it was just April Fools' Day. A rock that just stands and stares is also called
a gowk, though Milton may have a more favorable opinion of such a rock.

It's something we all want more of, but can't (yet) order from Amazon.
We are talking about time.
Can't slow it or speed it up, or reverse it. DeLorean and time turner remain fiction. Tesla hasn't announced the feature yet.
Time, the thing that never stops. Not for kings, not for presidents, not even for Gates, Bezos, or Musk. (Why isn't he named Musks?)
Time, the independent variable. Time, on which depend the definitions of even mass, distance, temperature, and more.*
This week in this space we'll feature time, or words about time.
What are your best timesaving tips? Share on our website wordsmith.org/words/timeous.html
or email us at words@wordsmith.org. As always, include your location (city, state).

Gestern besuchten wir den Berliner Dom, eines der wichtigsten Wahrzeichen im Berliner Stadtbild. Dort konnten wir die Kuppel besichtigen und einen tollen Blick auf die Stadt genießen. Später haben wir uns die Gruft angesehen, wo mehr als 100 Sarkophage sind, die zum deutschen Königtum gehörten.
