I was photographing a big family of goats and followed them as they were walking. Suddenly, a small family of sheep was in the mix. I noted this lamb was hopping all over. Quite difficult to photograph though.

I have been missing photographing the babies lately so when I heard there were lambs at a local small farm, I did not hesitate to go :-).

"The Downs are sheep, the Weald is corn,

You be glad you are Sussex born!"

So wrote Rudyard Kipling, who was actually Mumbai-born, but settled in rural East Sussex in 1897 and wrote praising poetry about his home county. Walking on the South Downs Way, you see indeed a lot of sheep.

It is always a treat in Badlands National Park when the spring Bighorn lambs start arriving. These two are discovering their natural abilities in maneuvering the precipices even while their umbilical cords are still visible.

Ok it is not yet living up to its species name - just a couple small nubs on this Bighorn Sheep (Ovis canadensis) lamb. Not even sure whether this was a male or female. But it certainly was curious about us, coming quite close to check us out before joining up with the rest of its group.
