Jokulsarlon is a large glacial lake in southeast Iceland, on the edge of Vatnajokull National Park.
Situated at the head of the Breioamerkurjokull glacier, it developed into a lake after the glacier started receding from the edge of the Atlantic Ocean. The lake has grown since then at a varying rate because of the melting of the glaciers.
The lagoon is full of icebergs of every size and shape and hue. The lake is considered one of the natural wonders of Iceland.

The Gialova lagoon, in the southwestern part of the Peloponnese Peninsula, is a place where many species of birds of passage stop on their way from Europe to Africa and back.
Gialova Lagoon is a birder's paradise, home to over 270 species on account of its shallow waters and abundance of fish and plants. It's Greece's southernmost major wetland and the only place in Europe where you can see the African chameleon. The lagoon is part of the Natura 2000 network, a group of ecological important protected areas in the European Union.

Not long before sunset I managed to catch a little sun in a nearby lagoon, that is actually part of the larger St Clair Lagoon. The reflected reeds make an interesting study. I'm pleased to say you could hear the frogs, and who knows, there may even have been a platypus or two in these waters.

The Atacama Desert may seem arid at first, but in reality it is full of surprises. At the bend of a path, you can for example discover a beautiful green lagoon. (Atacama, Chile)
The Chaxa Lagoon is an extraordinary natural basin in the middle of the desert. Early in the morning, the reflection of the dawn light colors the salt water with a pink hue. The basin, home to countless wild flamingos, marks the entrance to the Los Flamencos National Reserve.

A view of Bournda Lagoon with the paperbark forest fringe in the backgound. This is adjacent to Bournda Beach on the Far South Coast NSW.
Taken along the shoreline of the Back Lagoon at Merimbula NSW. This lagoon is adjacent Short Point Beach and in a section of bushland at the top of the town.

This coastal lagoon is fed by creeks and joins the ocean near this point. The lagoon was quite full due to a continuing good season. Middle Lagoon at Middle Beach in the Mimosa Rocks National Park Far South Coast of NSW.

This lagoon is located adjacent the Bega River mouth and ocean. The water level high and fast moving, although the flow not evident here. This area has received very heavy rains since the dry season and bushfires of 2019-2020 and in excess of 12 inches over the last week or so. All sorts of rubbish flowing past and this area would probably be under water except the river mouth is open. This can be a popular area for families and children swimming in the shallows but not suitable at this time due to the flooding. I was lucky to have the untouched sand. Mogareeka near Tathra on the Far South Coast of NSW.
