The tall light house built in the English Gothic style is “Richard the Lionheart's Castle"
This poeticized name of the house, a monument of the early 20th century,
was given by Kiev residents in honor of the English king Richard the Lionheart, the hero of Walter Scott's novel "Ivanhoe".
The house in the form of an ancient castle stands on the complex relief of the former chronicle mountain Uzdykhalnitsa below St. Andrew's Church. The monumental facades are decorated with architectural elements of fortress-castle structures - different types of towers, spires, crenellated ends of the walls, etc. On the left side of the house rises a high tower with fortress features.
The monument to Hetman Mazepa is the first rotating monument in Ukraine dedicated to Hetman Ivan Stepanovich Mazepa, installed on January 19, 2009 on the observation deck, near the Kyiv Palace for Children and Youth, from the side of the Alley of Heroes of Kruty. According to other sources, the sculptural composition is called "Eternal Kyiv". The sculpture was created by Frank Meisler, a world-famous Israeli sculptor.
The monument is installed in such a way that when viewed from the palace, it is opposite the domes of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra, on the territory of which several churches were built with funds from Mazepa.
The monument is a flying dove mounted on a ball, which is framed by reliefs of cathedrals and churches built with funds from Hetman Mazepa. The dove consists of two parts, connected at the beak, which symbolizes the unity of the Left-Bank and Right-Bank Ukraine. The tail of the dove, consisting of two halves, wraps around the ball and Mazepa's churches. The entire composition is mounted on a granite pedestal and rotates around its axis.
