This photo was taken in early November at the place where the Takase-gawa flowing north makes a U-turn to flow south into Azumino Valley. Its upper reach from here is called Takase Keikoku (高瀬渓谷) or Takase Gorge.
Riverside foliage is still green, mountain slopes are in autumn colour, and mountain peaks are snow-capped, which is called Sandan Kouyou (三段紅葉) or three tiered colouring in Japan.
The snow capped mountain in the upper right is Rengue-dake. I climbed it last year and uploaded photos taken along its mountaineering trail to Flickr.
Another snow-caped mountain in the upper left is Kitakuzu-dake (北葛岳 2,551 m), in which the Kitakuzu-sawa stream rises.
Three rivers meet at this place to form a composite alluvial fan; Takase-gawa rising in Yarigatake (3,180 m), Kashima-gawa rising in Kashima-yari (2,889 m) and Kago-gawa rising in Rengue (2,799 m) and Harinoki-dake (2,821 m).
There are three dams and hydropower plants in Takase Gorge. Oomachi Dam, the first one, is located just behind the mountain in the left.

The changing of the colors of the leaves in Japan is known as kouyou (紅葉) or momiji when referring to maples and has become a major part of the tourist industry as people in tour buses and cars flock to the most famous temples and shrines for fall colors in Kyoto and Tokyo as well as the most beautiful mountains and gorges across the country, where the colorful autumn spectacle can best be enjoyed. this image was captured the Fall Colour at Takachiho Gorge, Kagoshima, Kyushu, Japan (秋天的颜色 - 日本, ，九州，鹿儿岛, 高千穗峡谷)
