The Catholic Church of St. Nicolai in Kalkar in Kleve on the Lower Rhine is known among other things for its nine carved altarpiece, its stained glass windows, its choir stalls, the historical Seifert organ and its Marie chandelier.
The Nicolai Church is a three-aisled hall with two parallel choirs and a built west tower.
Probably the construction was started already in 1230.
1409 there was a fire, according to the existing today with three naves was built in various stages.
The heavy war damage have been rectified.
What makes St. Nicolai however definitively unique is the combination of these medieval art with modern stained glass windows. Around 2000, designed the Wiesbaden biologist, physicist and glass painter Karl-Martin Hartmann a number of formerly destroyed and until then held unadorned church window again. As motives he used, inter alia, Feynman diagrams, pictures of three-jet events, spectroheliograms (incl. A representation of the comet Hale-Bopp), a photograph of the galaxy cluster Abell 2218, in which the predicted by Albert Einstein gravitational lensing effect was observed.
The Schwanenburg is the landmark of the city of Cleve in North Rhine-Westphalia near the Dutch border. It was built presumably in the 11th century by the counts and later dukes of Cleve on a spur-like runner of the mountain range from the Lower Rhine and is therefore one of few height castles on the Lower Rhine. Their castle mountain was name-giving for the later originating settlement: From Cleef (for cliff, cliff) became Cleve.
She received the name because of her weather vane in the form of a big swan whose wings were the crest of the ducal coat of arms.
The arrangement was also called "het slot by Cleef", and also if it the name suggests, it concerns with the Schwanenburg not around a castle arrangement, but around one by rebuildings of a castle in the 17th century resulted castle in the style of the baroque.

Kalkar is a municipality in the district of Kleve, in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is located near the Rhine, approx. 10 km south-east of Cleves. The most famous building of Kalkar is its church St. Nicolai, which has one of the most significant sacral inventory from the late Middle Ages in Europe or the Brick Gothic town hall build in 1446.
Kalkar was founded by Dirk VI of Cleves in 1230 and received city rights in 1242. It was one of the seven "capitals" of Cleves (called Kleve), until the line of the Duchy of Cleves died out in 1609, whereupon the city went over to the Margraviate of Brandenburg. Marie of Burgundy, Duchess of Cleves retired to Monreberg castle in Kalkar, where she founded a Dominican convent in 1455. Under her influence the city bloomed and artists were attracted to the favorable climate for cultural investment. She died at Monreberg castle in 1463.

This building was originally used as a granary. When a couple of years ago, a university campus was built all around it, the decision-makers decided to repurpose it as a library building. They turned it from a storehouse of wheat and rye into a storehouse of knowledge.

Jahrhundert.
