January 11th. All excitement of the holidays has been boxed up and put away. Sammy sees nothing much to look forward to beyond sleep and dreams. Little does he know the kitchen is going to be renovated in February.

We've just landed in the kitchen, one of the upper deck galley's of the British Airways A380, where the magic happens, keeping everyone fed & watered.

British Airways Airbus A380 G-XLEF operating the daily BA 462 from London Heathrow to Madrid @ 15.15 hrs.

British Airways have been begun operating their A380's again since grounding during the Covid-19 pandemic, using them on daily trips to Madrid & Frankfurt, a real treat for enthusiasts during November/ December 2021.

for those interested in the installation of the backsplash, my husband installed it with his dad. I asked him about the most challenging part . He said that the hardest part was matching the corners & making them look nice, which he expected from reading about it (I think that white grout helps make the corners look uniform). The second hardest part was grouting because the white glaze on the penny tiles is not that deep, i.e., does not cover the entire side of the penny tile. Beneath the white glaze is a grey color, so he had to grout enough to cover the grey, but not so much as to cover the tiles. He didn't expect this.

Officially the end of week two! They sanded the ceiling, now completely popcorn free, finished the electrical, set another base cabinet, and put in a temporary standing desk for Doyce!

I bought a paint sprayer for the cabinets and doors, replaced all the hinges with soft close, not quite finished. Beginning to look for tile. Moose from France. Cabinet paint colour "NYPD blue".

We put in hardwood throughout the main floor three years ago, but held off on the kitchen until now, our fifteenth year here. Several notable features of this late-70s beauty are the fake butcher-block melamine cabinets, the very handy cupboard in the corner next to the dishwasher (you can't reach more than an eighth of the way into the blind cavern, even on your knees), and the single light source in the room that's always a pleasure to work in shadow of - a triple swedish-ball - three hundred watts of lousy illumination.
