Maybe it is worth investigating the unknown, if only because the very feeling of not knowing is a painful one. ~ Krzysztof Kieslowski

Song for the UNification of Europe

Modesto omaggio a Kieslowski

Decalogo 7

Non fluì dalla strada del nord

né dalla via del sud

la sua musica selvaggia per la prima volta

nel villaggio quel giorno.

Egli apparve all' improvviso nel sentiero,

tutti uscirono ad ascoltarlo,

all' improvviso se ne andò, e invano

sperarono di rivederlo.

La sua strana musica infuse

in ogni cuore un desiderio di libertà.

Non era una melodia,

e neppure una non melodia.

In un luogo molto lontano,

in un luogo assai remoto,

costretti a vivere, essi

sentirono una risposta a questo suono.

Risposta a quel desiderio

che ognuno ha nel proprio seno,

il senso perduto che appartiene

alla ricerca dimenticata.

La sposa felice capì

d' essere malmaritata,

L' appassionato e contento amante

si stancò di amare ancora,

la fanciulla e il ragazzo furono felici

d' aver solo sognato,

i cuori solitari che erano tristi

si sentirono meno soli in qualche luogo.

In ogni anima sbocciava il fiore

che al tatto lascia polvere senza terra,

la prima ora dell' anima gemella,

quella parte che ci completa,

l' ombra che viene a benedire

dalle inespresse profondità lambite

la luminosa inquietudine

migliore del riposo.

Così come venne andò via.

Lo sentirono come un mezzo-essere.

Poi, dolcemente, si confuse

con il silenzio e il ricordo.

Il sonno lasciò di nuovo il loro riso,

morì la loro estatica speranza,

e poco dopo dimenticarono

che era passato.

Tuttavia, quando la tristezza di vivere,

poiché la vita non è voluta,

ritorna nell' ora dei sogni,

col senso della sua freddezza,

improvvisamente ciascuno ricorda -

risplendente come la luna nuova

dove il sogno-vita diventa cenere -

la melodia del violinista pazzo.

Former Karol Scheibler Palace - a neo-renaissance palace built for Karol Scheibler, located in Łódź next to the 19th century huge Scheibler factory complex (the so-called headquarters) and the Księży Młyn workers' housing estate.

The palace was built in 1856 according to the design of Jan Karol Mertsching. The first reconstruction took place in 1865. The current, neo-Renaissance shape was obtained in the years 1884–1887 after the reconstruction, which was carried out by the Warsaw architect Edward August Lilpop at the request of Karol's widow - Anna Scheibler.

Currently, there is the only one in Poland Museum of Cinematography.

Nearby is also the State Higher School of Film, Television and Theater. - alma mater: Zbigniew Rybczyński (Oscar 1982), Roman Polański (Oscar 2002 and Golden Palm 2002 in Cannes), Krzysztof Zanussi (Golden Lion in Venice and Golden Lions), Krzysztof Kieślowski (European Film Award 1988 and Golden Lion) , Juliusz Machulski (Golden Lions), Andrzej Wajda (Oscar 2000 and Golden Palm 1981).

"For 6,000 years, these rules have been unquestionably right. And yet we break them every day. People feel that something is wrong in life. There is some kind of atmosphere that makes people now turn to other values. They want to contemplate the basic questions of life.". -Krzysztof Kieslowski

(Gene observes): Phineas had soaked & brushed his hair for the occasion. This gave his head a sleek look, which was contradicted by the surprised, honest expression (that) he wore on his face. His ears, I had never noticed before, were fairly small & set close to his head, & combined with his plastered hair they now gave his bold nose & cheekbones the sharp look of a prow.

~ John Knowles, "A Separate Peace," p. 26.

The red of the Tricolore (fraternite) frames this capture--& underlies the theme running through the brief series on Gene, Phineas, & "A Separate Peace." Kieslowski's extraordinary meditation (Trilogie: Bleu, Blanc, Rouge) throws into broad relief the vast interconnectedness of all life--& the sometimes tragic circumstances of shared experience (A Separate Peace). Fraternite: All sentient life has inherent value & is interconnected.

The videoclip is from the trilogy of the three colours… the finale of the french film « Bleu » directed by Krzysztof Kieslowski…!!! The music is the 'Song for the Unification of Europe' from the film's soundtrack, composed by Zbigniew Preisner…!!! The DOP of these three films is a piece of art…!!! These films influenced my son Christophe to become photographe and DOP…!!!

Krzysztof Kieslowski quotes

re-watching some old favorites this week, for me one of the most beautiful films ever made

Double is good. Double cream double sugar is my favorite coffee shot at Tim Hortons.

Double take of fall color can be attained in reflection too.

If I put some music to go with the fall color double take here, I will have the movie soundtrack of “The Double Life of Veronika” by K. Kieslowski. It is the beautiful Concerto in E minor (SBI 152) Version 1798.

I hope all of you like this double take of fall color. It was taken in Queen Elizabeth Park last weekend at the small creek.

Happy Thursday and happy Remembrance Day long weekend to my Canadian friends!

Reminder: this theme has nothing to do with any patriotic nationalism. It's a tribute to Krzysztof Kieślowski and his trilogy. The idea formed in my mind from some urban photos where Three colors /Trois couleurs appeared in redundancy. They evoked me immediately this great film director, telling us about the complex connections of life.

Kieślowski's film has multiple sources, among which Camus' The Fall inspired the judge's character.
