This weeks picture is dedicated to little man name Gavin (4 year old) who is bettering cancer. He got some bad news lately but he is a superman and won’t give up until he beats the cancer.

Local people, friends & neighbours are getting together on the 26th of June to swing 75.000 kettelbell swings in two hours to raise money for this little fighter.

Gavin was diagnosed with a rare form cancer known as Rhabdomyosarcoma which is a cancerous (malignant) tumour of the muscles that are attached to the bones.

You can read his latest progress here: gavinsprotontherapyswitzerland.blogspot.ie/2014/05/more-b...

Never Giving Up!!!

Keep Fighting!!!

The concept for this shot was the beginning of a tough workout in a garage gym. I set up in my actual garage with my well-loved 32kg kettlebell, a vintage 200mm FD-mount macro lens, a gridded speedlight gelled blue as key and a snooted manual speedlight as fill. There’s no ambient light in this picture. To add some interest, I set for a timed exposure and dusted the scene with gym chalk just before the shutter.

For a year up in San Francisco, I couldn't get myself to the gym. I went bike riding and walking, but couldn't find my way down the street to the gym (yes, it was 1 block away!). After only 2.5 weeks back in L.A., it was back to the gym today! I am working out at a small private gym without all the fancy machines. It is owned by a trainer who calls himself "the most hated trainer." He is GREAT, somehow managing to get me to do things I was convinced I couldn't do, without pushing me over the edge. It is back to basics: squats, push-ups, pull-ups, kettlebells, TRX, and weights, as well as motion, flexibility and balance. It felt great to be back working out!

The kettlebell is a versatile fitness tool that can help almost anyone reach his or her fitness goals. Kettlebell workouts, if designed properly, can burn fat, build muscle, and improve athletic performance. Who wouldn’t want all three?

If you’re keen on getting in shape fast with one simple pie...

Dogwood Week 3: Inspiration: Black and White

Your inspiration this week is to simply take an amazing Black and White photograph of any subject you want.

Post Processing - Luminar 3

Claire has been training for a bodybuilding competition, this is her at week 12 of 15. Lots of hard work and tears have gone into the effort so far as well as losing over 1.5 stone in weight.

Mountain View, California

bought a kettlebell and finally started to use it today!

Aftermath.

Kettlebell calf raises, squats and swings in the pissing rain.

(Yes, it does indeed rain in the desert!)

Hi,

let me get this straight right away. I'm not a big fan of B/W pictures. Never been, never will be. I just like color way to much to just leave it out of my pictures. Also IMHO there are way to many B/W pictures out there with just the saturation reduced to zero, which quite frankly looks awful. That being said, I think for some kind of pictures B/W can work great.

Some time ago I stumbled upon the awesome gym shot of Benjamin von Wong which I liked very much. If you don't know him, I highly recomment checking out his Blog (www.vonwong.com/) he's just awesome!

As you may know, I'm Taekwon Do instructor and there also is a Kettlebell class in our gym. Naturally I wanted to try this out for some neet Taekwon Do and Kettlebell pictures. So I built a rain rig, grabbed some people from my gym (none of them professional models) and started shooting. The rain rig I built for this was not as sophisticated as von Wongs, but it also did a good job. The main drawback was, that the amount of rain was really hard to control. But in the end, it worked out quite beautiful.

If you like what you see, you can also take a look at my facebook page (where I upload stuff more regular).

Also I'd be happy to read your comment about this picture!

Strobist Info:

I used a 4 strobe setup for this to get this nice harsh and contrasty look and to let the raindrops pop:

2 Softboxes at 04:00 and 08:00

1 Striplight at 10:00

1 bare Strobe at 02:00

Bosten terrier with kettlebells.

Strobist info: Key light camera left with 60cm x 60cm softbox and two rim lights back left and right. I used Yongnuo manual flashes and triggered them with YN 560 TX and optical slave mode.
