On the way to Swan Reach, 100s of kangaroos came out for a drink. Contrary to belief, not a sight you see everyday.
Foraging on the grass near the edge of the forest these three roos pause to consider if my presence means that they will hop off into the forest or not.

Kangaroo paw is the common name for a number of species, in two genera of the family Haemodoraceae, that are endemic to the south-west of Western Australia. These rhizomatous perennial plants are noted for their unique bird-attracting flowers. The tubular flowers are coated with dense hairs and open at the apex with six claw-like structures, and it is from this paw-like formation that the common name kangaroo paw is derived. The plant is native to south-western Australia. The plants have found their way to California and become popular among garden supply businesses there. 26326

This Eastern Grey female's large joey is grazing from the comfort and security of the pouch.
Kangaroos are wonderful mothers and the joey stays with her for a whole year (6 months in her pouch and 6 months hopping beside her)

Kangaroo paw is a great survivor of droughts and bushfires. Some varieties flower for most of the year and bees love them.
Floral emblem of Western Australia. So named because of six claw-like structures that resemble Kangaroo forelimbs and have a paw-like formation

The first three photographs today are of two Eastern Grey Kangaroos at Plenty Gorge, the first two show them play-fighting, the third is the disapproving looks I got when they realised I was watching.

You wanna move please so I can get my shot of the Kangaroo. A hammy Australasian Swamphen sees a camera and takes centre stage with the spreading wings and the expression that says "What are you taking a picture of little ol' me?" No says I you wanna move. Turns out it is quite a beautiful deep blue color as displayed by our unabashed overbearing blatantly photobombing boastful bird.
