Kamakura (鎌倉) is a seaside town facing the Sagami bay (相模湾), part of the Pacific Ocean. It has nice beaches. The one in the photo is called Yuigahama beach (由比ヶ浜).
Kamakura is located 70 km to the southwest of Tokyo, and it takes just one hour from Shinjuku and 25 minutes from Yokohama by train.
It looks like a wealthy seaside suburb but it is much older than Tokyo and Yokohama; it had been the capital of Japan from 1185 to 1333. Consequently, it offers more than what it appears. Presence of tourists is an evidence. I suppose they did not come to Kamakura for surfing.

Santuario Tsurugaoka Hachiman - Hongū.
Il santuario è costituito da vari santuari posti su due livelli diversi comunicanti tramite varie scalinate.
Il più importante Hongū è quello che si scorge al termine della scalinata.
L'attuale Honden fu costruito nel 1828 da Ienari Tokugawa, l'undicesimo shōgun della dinastia.

The sanctuary consists of various sanctuaries placed on two different levels communicating via various stairways.
The most important Hongū is the one that can be seen at the end of the staircase.
The current Honden was built in 1828 by Ienari Tokugawa, the eleventh shōgun of the dynasty.
