Kegelrobbengeburten 2020/21 Düne: 652 Jungtiere
Eine neu geborene Kegelrobbe ist 75 Zentimeter bis einen Meter lang und wiegt zwischen 15 und 20 Kilogramm.
Sie wird zwei bis zweieinhalb Wochen von der Mutter gesäugt.
Kegelrobben-Babys tragen noch keinen wasserdichten Pelz, sondern ein langes, weißes, wolliges Fell, das auch Lanugo genannt wird.
Erst, wenn sie zwei bis vier Wochen alt sind, wechseln sie ihr Fell und machen die ersten Schwimm-Versuche.

Just got back from friends of ours, farm. There Jersey cow ( first time mother) gave birth to a a little female calf! This little one is only 5 hours old!
She struggled to get up a few times but then she was on her feet and walking around! Then she got tired and plopped down on the grass again.( while I drove home to quickly get my camera.) Our friends are rejoicing!
Her name is Halo.
Look closely and you can see the umbilical cord dangling from the baby moose!

Like I do most years, I will monitor the growth of the Shetland Foals.
And I said to myself that I wouldn't bore the flickr users with more pictures of ponies but I just can't help myself.
Still a very sleepy and relaxing day for Sally, after all, she's only just 36 hours old.
But inbetween naps and feeding, she was just as playful and energetic as yesterday.
Liked this one today, the sun was so warm and glowing and she was just basking in the sunset heat.

This is another photo of the baby calf. At just a few hours old, she was still a bit wet and gooey but absolutely perfect :) Her Momma wasn't far away, but I still managed a quick kneel down in the soaking wet grass to get this lovely snap :)
Anyway, hopefully the weather is set to improve (if just for a day) and even though I'm stuck at work, it'll just be nice to look out the window and see a bit of sunshine instead of those great big black clouds that have been hanging round all Summer!!!!

Spring is the season for new life in Yellowstone NP. Here we have a brand new bison with its mother. Notice the umbilical still attached and how it is not quite dry yet. You can almost smell that "new bison" smell.
Near Yellowstone Picnic Area, Yellowstone National Park.
Best viewed large.
