Arawak Cay, also referred to as Fish Fry is named after the original West Indian inhabitants of the area. Sand dredged from the harbor in 1969 was used to build Arawak Cay, a small sandy island on the surface of a coral reef. The Port at Arawak Cay and the Nassau Container Port handle Nassau's shipping industry while it has become a popular place for a variety of Bahamian restaurants. Print Size 13x19 inches.

My first Junkanoo had me completely locked in. An explosion of colour, craftsmanship, and cultural energy flowing through Bay Street. The percussion, horns, and whistles didn’t just set the rhythm, they were the atmosphere. Electric, joyful, and unapologetically alive.
I left tired, but artistically refreshed. I’ll be back next year.

Tiki Bikini Hut is fabulous open air bar on Junkanoo Beach, Nassau, Bahamas. Great place to get a beer or fruity drink, and talk with locals and tourists alike. Abstract, intentional camera movement, ICM.
One of the most celebrated art forms in the Bahamas is that of junkanoo. Junkanoo has evolved to include art, dance, and music.The earliest of such instruments was the bugle; in fact, the bugle is regarded as an original instrument used in Bahamian junkanoo music. Similar to goombay in its rhythmical variety, the music of junkanoo has been passed down by a system of training gained only by taking part in one of the many groups that participate in the parade festivals. Today, junkanoo music has been adapted to stage instruments and can be heard in the music of most contemporary Bahamian recording artists.

The man was moving so quickly to the rhythm of island music, that it was very difficult for me to make a photograph with this manual lens. Even at this exposure. He all time moves, danced and even vibrate to the rhythm of the music festival. A very artistic person. He reminds me Eddie Murphy in his early films... Slightly later, after parade, it was reggae music. I wish the city municipal authorities will hold such shows more often - it will attract a lot of tourists in St Augustine.

This view is from Junkanoo Beach in Nassau. This scene caught my eye because of the great contrast between the local boys using this dock as their diving board and beyond them the "parking lot" of the tourists - five cruise ships were at dock! The boys did cannonballs while the tourists shopped for Cartier. Hmmm, I wonder who had more fun?
