Ein traumhafter Regenbogen überraschte mich heute auf meinem Heimweg!

We took a hike on the dunes in Kohler Andrae State Park today and came back along the beach. It was a perfect day out! 70 degrees, a light breeze, and fluffy white clouds in a bright blue sky. There were barely any people there, too, which made it even more pleasant.

Baker has had a busy week chasing the little bunnies in our yard. They are much quicker than he is and can slip under our gates in a flash. He goes out and makes all kinds of noise and I allow the baying for a bit, as those dang bunnies are eating my garden. I am hoping they get the message soon. I hope everyone has a great week.

One from my trip earlier in the summer to Hungary :-)

The last hard frost we had, late in season, killed a good portion of this rose. I was so sad, as it is one of my favorites and I have had it for years. I cut it way back, and low and behold she is about to bloom.

I have had this lensbaby lens now for five years or so. If I am honest it has intimidated me from the get-go. But I am determined to learn some of it's beautiful capabilities. If anyone has any tips I would love to hear them.

These two! Percy makes sure Baker gets enough treats, lots of pets and kisses, and some playtime outside. He seems to know the way to not only Grandma's heart but also the heart of a dog.

"Or perhaps you notice a congregation of ladybugs on a rose stalk. Don't invoke the old nursery saying and ask them to fly away home. Their house is not on fire. Your roses are, with aphids, which the ladybugs are feeding on - and you can bless yourself that they have come to your rescue."

— Eleanor Perenyi

“In the deep spring when the grass was green on fields and foothills, when the lupines and poppies made a splendid blue and gold earth, when the great trees awakened in yellow-green young leaves, then there was no more lovely place in the world.

It was no beauty you could ignore by being used to it. It caught you in the throat in the morning and made a pain of pleasure in the pit of your stomach when the sun went down over it.”

― John Steinbeck, The Wayward Bus

Peony.

In our garden.

Biting flies and mosquitoes are appearing during our hikes, so we’ve switched to biking for our outdoor outings for the summer. We took our first ride to Kohler-Andrae State Park, where we took a break on the beach and waded in the water for a bit. The water was ice cold!

Baker had a busy week, not only did the toddler come to play, but the pugs came three days in a row to spend the day with us. The pugs are old, and pretty much blind so they are not much for playing. Baker spends a lot of time watching them sleep and stumble around the yard, sniffing them occasionally with curiosity.

A very small hoverfly - 7–10 mm.

PS - I know it is a male as the eyes meet in the middle :)

The view from my bedroom window at 7:10 this morning.

These clouds are formed by the variable wind speeds at different altitudes. When blowing at different speeds above and below the cloud layer, the wind can cause the cloud to bunch up into ridges, which curve, join and divide, like fingers in the sky.

Made for the street party this afternoon.

It is in a 12" heavy crystal dish that is 70 years old! Bought by my mum to make a trifle for the Coronation street party :)

I did manage a clear shot of the moon eventually, although it kept "flirting" with the clouds!

full of dinosaurs, according to Percy!

Baker had a good week, lots of fun outdoors, some good long walks and some bunny chasing. The toddler came for his normal Thursday visit and fed him lots of treats, and snuggles.

Time for an Erie lack-a-money rescan. Back in 1975, June22 to be exact, we were standing on the Rock Island embankment at Blue Island crossing. I had been taking railroad pictures for a little over six months and I was just getting used to wandering around wherever to get the best shot. No one seemed to care, and usually the only form of attention you would get would be a friendly wave. Today, this is a big no-no, and to get the shots that we were so used to getting you need a drone. Whatever, here's an Eire-Lackawanna transfer run, rolling on the Indiana Harbor Belt, headed to either the Belt Railroad at Clearing, or the Milwaukee Road at Bensenville. Yes, these four big beauties were used on lowly transfer runs around ChicagoLand back in the final days of the E-L. Talk about going out with a bang.

Petunia and Clematis greet me as I step out onto the decking.

This is one of the three Roses I got for Christmas.

Royal William was purchased as a reminder of my dad. So far, it has had just this one flower, but what a beauty. and the perfume... :)

CC Versatile Challenge - Summer days mean roses :)

"My mother warned me when I took the job that I would never be the same. She said, 'You will never want to go back to being a housewife.' At that time I didn't think it would change a thing. But she was right, it definitely did. . . . at Boeing I found a freedom and an independence that I had never known. After the war I could never go back to playing bridge again, being a club woman . . . when I knew there were things you could use your mind for. The war changed my life completely. I guess you could say, at thirty-one, I finally grew up."
