Quote Of The Day:
"No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we'll ever see on this earth!" (Ronald Reagan)
Montreal is a Crusader castle on the eastern side of the Arabah, perched on the side of a rocky, conical mountain, looking out over fruit trees below. The ruins, called Shoubak or Shawbak in Arabic, are located in modern town of Shoubak in Jordan.
This was a crusader castle originally, but it was destroyed about 70 years after being built. Montreal castle finally fell to the famous Saladin after a two year siege, and most of what remains today was built by Mameluks.

Wadi Rum is a protected desert wilderness in southern Jordan almost 300 Km South of Amman city (Capital of Jordan). It features dramatic sandstone mountains and Natural Arches. Many prehistoric inscriptions and carvings line rocky caverns and steep chasms. The natural water source of Lawrence’s Spring is named after British Lieutenant Lawrence of Arabia, who allegedly washed there.
Wadi Rum in Jordan was used for filming the external scenes as the surface of Planet Mars in the Hollywood movie (The Martian) and many other movies.

Acadia National Park is mostly located on Mount Desert Island, the largest island off the coast of Maine. It is rich in coastal scenery. With a record of 338 bird species encountered, Acadia National Park is considered one of the premier bird-watching areas in the country. www.nps.gov/acad/learn/nature/birds.htm
The Jordan Pond Gatehouse and its counterpart, Brown Mountain Gatehouse, guard the entrance to Acadia's historic carriage roads with the intention of preventing automobiles from entering. In 1931, John D. Rockefeller, Jr. commissioned New York architect Grosvenor Atterbury in association with John Thompkins to design the elaborate gatehouses and gatekeepers' residences. Attenbury attempted in the design to recall the island's colonial heritage, choosing a highly picturesque style reminiscent of the provincial architecture of the Le Puis district in France. After their completion in 1932, Rockefeller donated both gatehouses to Acadia National Park. The lodges were to house the respective gatekeepers. Construction of the two gate lodges on Mount Desert Island provided many local men a job during the depression.

Petra Jordan
The city of Petra, capital of the Nabataean Arabs, is one of the most famous archaeological sites in the world, it is Located 240 km south of the capital Amman and 120 km north of the red sea town of Aqaba (see the Map), Petra the world wonder is undoubtedly Jordan's most valuable treasure and greatest tourist attraction, and it is visited by tourists from all over the world.
It is not known precisely when Petra was built, but the city began to prosper as the capital of the Nabataean Empire from the 1st century BC, which grew rich through trade in frankincense, myrrh, and spices.
On December 6, 1985, Petra was designated a World Heritage Site,, also Petra was chosen by the Smithsonian Magazine as one of the 28 places you should visit them before you die.

Excerpt from Wikipedia:
Petra, originally known to the Nabataeans as Raqmu, is a historical and archaeological city in southern Jordan. The city is famous for its rock-cut architecture and water conduit system. Another name for Petra is the Rose City due to the color of the stone out of which it is carved.
Established possibly as early as 312 BC as the capital city of the Arab Nabataeans. The Nabataeans were nomadic Arabs who took advantage of Petra's proximity to regional trade routes to establish it as a major trading hub. The Nabataeans are also known for their great ability in constructing efficient water-collecting methods in the barren deserts and their talent in carving structures into solid rocks. Petra lies on the slope of Jebel al-Madhbah (identified by some as the biblical Mount Hor) in a basin among the mountains which form the eastern flank of Arabah (Wadi Araba), the large valley running from the Dead Sea to the Gulf of Aqaba. It has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1985.
The site remained unknown to the Western world until 1812, when it was introduced by Swiss explorer Johann Ludwig Burckhardt.
