The Church of St John the Evangelist is a Scottish Episcopal church in the centre of Edinburgh, Scotland. It is sited at the west end of Princes Street at its junction with Lothian Road, and is protected as a category A listed building.
It was dedicated as St John's Chapel on Maundy Thursday 1818 with construction having begun in 1816. It was designed by the architect William Burn the previous year.
The John Oliver Cabin was constructed in the early 1820’s by John Oliver and his wife Lucretia. The Oliver's were the first permanent white settlers of Cades Cove, which is now part of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
Dogwoods blooming and it's a beautiful spring evening in the mountains.
Thanks for viewing.
I am raiding the 2014 archives for this week's Fence Friday shot. The John Oliver Cabin was built in the early 1820’s by John Oliver and his wife, Lurena. It is one of multiple historic structures that are part of the Cade's Cove loop drive, located in the Tennessee portion of Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

We left early to drive down to Hobart (where I took the photos of the racing yachts). The forecast was promising and as we made our way down the highway the mist was just lifting from the mountains in the distance.
In the background is the southern end of Ben Lomond, and in the foreground the vast expanse of plains across the Northern Midlands of Tasmania. There are few trees today, but once (when Aboriginal people lived here) it was a dense forest. In fact we are not far from the hamlet named in the early colonial years as Epping Forest. Almost completely devoid of trees now - sheep grazing land.
Those trees do remind me of John Glover (1767-1849) though. Glover painted a scene not far from this location and looking in the other direction towards the Great Western Tiers range. And there were still plenty of trees then. I'll put a link to his painting below.

Church in honor of the Conception of John the Baptist.
The name of the church continues the tradition from the end of the 18th century, according to which the church of the suburban village of Bilichi was named in honor of the Prophet John, the Forerunner and Baptist of the Lord. The previous village temple was destroyed by the authorities in the 1960s.
In 2006, the construction of a large brick temple of the Conception of John the Baptist in the Byzantine style began.

Taken a couple of days ago, an hour or so before it started to snow. The view looks across the Went valley towards the village church and a sixteenth century dwelling.

New Torso and legs, same head as I've had forever. I still love it.
I stopped in Pawhuska, OK on my way back from a recent trip and spotted this old Ford. It had a ton of character, and I bet its owner does, too!

... is a 12-mile (19 km) long glacier, about 1 mile wide, 250 feet high at the terminus, and 200 feet deep at the water line. It begins on the east slopes of Lituya Mountain and Mount Salisbury, and trends east to the head of Johns Hopkins Inlet, 1 mile (1.6 km) southwest of the terminus of Clark Glacier and 79 miles (127 km) northwest of Hoonah. It was named after Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland in 1893 by Harry Fielding Reid. It is one of the few advancing tidewater glaciers of the Fairweather Range !
