Never in all my life have I seen so much beautiful ornate decor, this place blew me away.

One of the most charming streets in Derby.

The castle was built by King John between 1207 and 1214. It cost over £1000. It was built at the bend of the River Whitewater probably as a defensive strategy but also because it is a halfway point between Windsor and Winchester, which until the 12th century was the capital of England and which was still very important in the 13th century especially ecclesiastically. In 1216 the French laid siege to it. Thereafter it became the home of the very powerful de Montfort family and Simon de Montfort married King John's daughter Eleanor. However de Montfort rebelled against King Henry and was killed in battle and his wife exiled. "In the 14th century the castle played a part in the Despenser's rebellion, was host to a sitting of Parliament, and for eleven years was prison to a Scottish king. By the 15th century, however, it was used only as a hunting-lodge, and in 1605 was described as a ruin."

Just outside a tiny town called Mexican Hat in Utah there is a very special place called John's Canyon. I have been there so many times and every time I have the place to myself.

There are Pertoglyphs on ancient stones, 300-foot canyon walls and shear drop offs to the San Juan River Basin. This image is of one of my campsites along the road leading into the canyon.

One year I took my Four Wheeler with me and rode into the canyon for miles and nearly got lost. The best part is the dark skies, they are truly worth staying for.

John's Modern Cabins is an old motel on Route 66 in Newburg, Missouri that's about eight miles west of Rolla.

Two outhouses stand behind the aging buildings; nearby, a faded, broken neon sign identifies the little structures as "John's Modern Cabins." Driving along Route 66 in front of the cabins, a passerby can read the story of the road.

The cabins have been around since the 1930s.

The St. John's River was at a very high water stage. As our boat neared this alligator he was unusually large and was protecting his territory.

I love to visit this church in Harriman State Park. The church also served occasionally as an orphan home. It is one of the few buildings left of the hamlet of St. John's. The episcopal church still holds services every Sunday.

Saint John's Church, which currently stands next to Acre's lighthouse, belongs to the Latin community (the Franciscans).

It is unclear as to when the church was built, although several years ago, the year 1737 was found engraved in the northern wall of the building. The church was renovated in 1947 and now serves as the only church of Acre's Latin-Catholic community.

St. John's Anglican church and graveyard is part of the community of Sandwich in the city of Windsor, Ontario. The church was established in 1802 and the first church building was erected in 1807. In 1813 the first church was burned to the ground by retreating American soldiers during the war of 1812. The church was rebuilt in 1818 with the present day steeple being erected in 1852.

King John's Hunting Lodge (sometimes known as King Henry's Hunting Lodge) was probably erected in the 1730’s to house a gamekeeper working for the nearby Dogmersfield Estate. The house sit's a few hundred yards from the Basingstoke canal near Odiham in Hampshire. This view is taken looking across Wilk's Water.
