This is the same kind of bass that Paul McCartney used in the Beatles.

Being played here by the bassist from the Shuffle Demons.

So this gives you some history behind the pseudonym that is "Funky Slug"....

It goes back to my college days and has its roots in The Magic Roundabout... lol...

Based mainly on Brian the Snail and the fact that I was in to Jazz Funk at the time....... so this was my tag..... but this is the first time it's been seen in colour...... thanks to photoshop and a wacom....

After being told I needed to start a bucket list 4 years ago (2.24.14) - today I starting it...first guitar!

Jean-Paul Maunick, known as Bluey, longtime band leader of Incognito, has been awarded an MBE in the King’s Birthday Honours.

Incognito in concert here: youtu.be/Ed_1L-r-xQk

Long time regulars at Ronnie Scott’s where they regularly play New Year’s Eve, Incognito were formed at the tail-end of the 1970s by Mauritius born guitarist Maunick, who is 69, and Paul “Tubbs” Williams, growing out of the disco-funk ashes of Light of the World.

Jean-Paul Maunick, known as Bluey, longtime band leader of Incognito, has been awarded an MBE in the King’s Birthday Honours.

Gilles Peterson snapped them up for his Talkin’ Loud label, instantly positioning the band at the absolute vanguard of the roaring British acid jazz and club explosion of the time.

'Over more than four decades, Incognito has behaved less like a conventional band and more like a fluid, ever-revolving musical collective. Led from the front by Bluey, the group has rotated through hundreds of world-class musicians and exceptional vocalists, including the likes of Maysa Leak, Jocelyn Brown, and Tony Momrelle.' (Marlbank.net)

In the depth of Winter and in response to recent grey days, here`s Richard Wilson`s work in Brockley of Jazz/Funk legend Roy Ayers and one of his best loved songs.

Jazz-funk is a subgenre of jazz music characterized by a strong back beat (groove), electrified sounds and an early prevalence of analog synthesizers. The integration of funk, soul, and R&B music and styles into jazz resulted in the creation of a genre whose spectrum is quite wide and ranges from strong jazz improvisation to soul, funk or disco with jazz arrangements, jazz riffs, and jazz solos, and sometimes soul vocals.

Jazz-funk is primarily an American genre, where it was popular throughout the 1970s and the early 1980s, but it also achieved noted appeal on the club-circuit in England during the mid-1970s. Similar genres include soul jazz and jazz fusion, but neither entirely overlap with jazz-funk. Notably jazz-funk is less vocal, more arranged and featured more improvisation than soul jazz, and retains a strong feel of groove and R&B versus some of the jazz fusion production.
