Artist’s comments: This species, which is widely sold as a “cage bird”, and has been domesticated, is actually rare in the wild in its homeland, but populations thrive in various warm climate locations around the world, including Hawaii, the West Indies, southern China, the Philippines and elsewhere. It has several other common names, including Temple Bird and Java Finch.
