El molino de Jado es un molino de mareas situado en Argoños, Cantabria, desde tiempos muy antiguos, en estas costas se ha utilizado la fuerza de las mareas para mover molinos, embalsando el agua con la pleamar y liberándola en la bajamar sobre los rodeznos de impulsión.

Hablar de Somiedo es hablar de un lugar que todavía conser- va el encanto de lo salvaje, por algo aquí se encuentra la ma- yor población de oso pardo de la península, esta especie se po- dría considerar un medidor biológico ya que nos indica el estado de conservación de la zona. Aunque la mano del hombre ha de- jado huella, y se ha deforestado para conseguir espacio para los pastos, aún podemos encontrar bosques, ríos y lagos casi en estado puro.
El Parque Natural de Somiedo, fue creado en año 1.988, ya que anteriormente era una reser- va nacional de caza. Ocupa una extensión de 30.000 hectáreas, y se encuentra situado en el suroeste asturiano. El clima, es propicio a las lluvias abundantes y temperaturas no muy extre- mas, siendo los otoños lluviosos; con inviernos también húmedos y con precipitaciones de nieve, veranos suaves y normalmente cortos donde puede nevar de manera débil en las cum- bres más altas, aunque muy ocasionalmente y que no suele durar más que unas horas.
La cubierta vegetal destaca por su variedad y la presencia de muchas plantas medicinales y flores silvestres. Geológicamente el territorio está formado básicamente por pizarras, areniscas, cuarcitas y calizas, y es conocido como "manto de Somiedo".
Recientemente Somiedo ha sido declarado reserva de las biosfera por la UNESCO.

A somewhat serious request for scanning advice from all you film shooters & scanners out there. I've been using a Canon 9000f scanner for awhile and every time apple updates the OS I have issues with the scanning software. Canon seems to have stopped updating anything a long time ago. I'm currently trying to decide whether to buy third party software or just bite the bullet and get a newer scanner. I don't do that much scanning but occasionally like to dive back into my old negatives. All advice would be appreciated and most likely ignored. JADO

El molino de Jado es un molino de mareas situado en Argoños, desde tiempos muy antiguos, en estas costas se ha utilizado la fuerza de las mareas para mover molinos, embalsando el agua con la pleamar y liberándola en la bajamar sobre los rodeznos de impulsión. Aunque sin duda las hubo más antiguas, estas instalaciones se extendieron por todas las rías de la costa cantábrica en el siglo XVII, con la introducción del cultivo de maíz.
El mar Cantábrico experimenta mareas muy fuertes, que dos veces al día provocan oscilaciones del nivel del agua que van desde los 80 cm de una “marea muerta” a los 4’5 m de una “marea viva”.
Fueron tantos los molinos de mareas que solo en el entorno de la Bahía de Santoña se contabilizan más de veinte, de los cuales tres están en Argoños.
El molino de Jado, en el barrio de Ancillo, se ha recuperado y restaurado, de manera que ahora es un Centro de Interpretación de la marisma, de su naturaleza y del modo de vida de sus habitantes, se ha convertido en un lugar imposible de dejar de visitar si visitamos la zona.

La plaza Jado, en pleno ensanche bilbaíno, fue objeto una renovación urbanística que le dotó de 3.200 metros cuadrados más para los peatones. Uno de los elementos nuevos que llamó más la atención de dicha remodelación fue la incorporación de una espectacular fuente realizada en mármol proveniente de las canteras de Macael presidida por tres leones. Este proyecto, entre otros promovidos por el Ayuntamiento de Bilbao en los que se usa la piedra natural, fue objeto del Premio Macael otorgado por la Asociación de Empresarios del Mármol de Andalucía (Aema).
