On my first trek I made the mistake of carrying my heavy luggage in my backpack. Logical, you might think, but little did I know that due to carelessness in loading and carrying the backpack on the back of a horse, they damaged it, so I got them to have it repaired. Rather a slipshod repair too, but there you have it. So I bought this flour bag in the main bazaar in Leh for 35 rupees. Thereafter, nothing was damaged, although the odd item went missing.
The sandal was intended to be worn when wading across streams. The trekking agency, Himalaya Voyages in Changspa Lane, Leh, never thought to inform me that such footwear was necessary (as they were only intersted in taking my money), so I had to buy a pair from a local man for 200 rupees. They were several sizes too small for me, but they did their job.
