My bright red toes. I never paint my toes but got the urge so I went for it.

This was above the door of a dark, grimy little room housing masks and I don't quite know what else. The monk showing me round shone his very weak torch (flashlight) on the wall, but I couldn't make anything out.

This was the second most luxurious toilet on this trek (see subsequent photos for further views of this facility). The most luxurious toilets were situated along Tso Kar lake. They were of the modern, flushing sort, but they soon ran out of water. Otherwise on the trek, it was just a question of finding any piece of open ground: a choice between W.C. Fields and Flushing Meadows.

As it was approaching the end of my trip, my beard had become rather long and my trousers had deteriorated. I wore my sandals, because my trekking boots had already disintegrated. The trousers are now no more, and I have trimmed my beard.

We went surfing in Tofino, BC. Since the water was around 12 degrees celsius, we wore full wet suits and booties. I have very narrow feet and the booties were very wide so they made me smile.

This should be "hummus with pit(t)a", such Middle Eastern specialities reflecting the presence of a large number of Israeli visitors in Ladakh.

New Zealanders may be reminded of Pita Sharples, but that's a very obscure reference for non-Kiwis. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pita_Sharples

The man on the right is the landlord of the Kashmiri Homestay (depicted). The girl in the foreground is a Korean fellow guest.

The barbecue consisted of jacket potatoes, which made our evening meal more interesting but which the locals declined to try.

This is a rare non-smelly Ladakhi toilet due to the stench pipe.
