The weather has been useless recently for macro photography,so I decided to have a look at my local birding patch, not too far away, just in case the rain came down.Nothing much about and as I was about to leave I was rewarded by a pair of Hobbies hunting over the fields.I hastened nearer to try and get some shots, the rain started to fall, light at first, but getting steadily heavier.Light was bad,Hobbies,as usual flying fast,I bumped up the iso to keep the shutter speed up, pointed the camera as one of the birds came nearish, fired off some shots and beat a hasty retreat as the rain started to pound.
I have no idea what they were feeding on,or if this was a regular hawking area, but it was interesting to see that the bad weather did not stop them hunting.
I shall make another visit in more clement weather and see if they're still about. It's a mega crop, awful weather, high iso etc...etc so consequently not the best image in the world.
But interesting to see them hunting in adverse conditions, whether they were actively hunting with juveniles to feed,(unlikely as the prey item seemed too small) or because the weather hasn't been good and their need was greater; I have now revised my opinion that they only hunt in good weather.
The clouds are made up of billions of tiny water droplets suspended in the atmosphere (mainly in the troposphere). Are formed from the cooling of moist air masses that rise in altitude and the consequent condensation of water vapor. In this case, the condensation of water vapor occurs not for a heat exchange with the surrounding environment, but for a change in pressure (adiabatic): when an air mass expands, the molecules occupy a larger volume, perform a work environment and lose energy: consequently the gas cools and the excess steam condensate.,.

It's not often that you find yourself in skies as dark as in Goblin Valley, Utah. But when you do, you try and take a big panorama, from the top of a big hill, saying a lot of bad words while hauling stuff up there. It also helps to have the world's most patient boyfriend, who not only helps haul me up said big hill, talks me down after various star-related meltdowns, and who waits while I take an age to finish taking photos, but who also sits and chills with me under the stars on nights like this 😘

Some crazy colors from airglow (and unfortunately some from chromatic aberration!) Make this panorama of Goblin Valley about as other-worldly as it was taking the photo!

While down in the Hanksville area a few weeks ago @erictheastrojunkie and I hiked out for a mile or so across what looked like a desolate lunar landscape to photograph one of the more prominent buttes in the area (you may recognize it from the background of some of the other pics I have posted recently).

While down in the Hanksville area with Eric I got a chance to shoot out near one of the buttes while the Milky Way rose overhead. I think this is perhaps the darkest place I have been in the USA which meant being able to see more details in the Milky Way core than I ever have before!

One of the best named basins in Yellowstone - Biscuit Basin, and it's very active geysers. In fact the one in the foreground erupted every 5 minutes covering us in warm steamy water each time. This combined with the cloud cover made taking photos a bit of a challenge to say the least, so I gave up after this one!

Final shot from the series with Andrey Das form our Von Wong Does Europe tour
Folks over at David FunxRider were kind enough to volunteer to light themselves on fire to make this shot possible while Das traced out an awesome explosion of flame behind them.
For those of you who missed it, check out the blog post (www.vonwong.com/blog/andrey-das-master-pyrotechnician/) featuring behind the scenes links and videos!
Erwan and I are extremely excited that our first set of videos have been so well received. Already republished on:

Turns out the dog we're fostering has super powers.
Fostering Rookie - Day 8 - for the Animal Foundation's 'BEST IN SHOW' dog adoption event. He's an affectionate "velcro" couch potato but also loves to ride in the car, hike, play fetch and jog. He's got that cool running style where he seems to effortlessly float more than run. He gets along with our other dogs and doesn't seem to bother with the cat (much). He's housebroken & knows his sits, stays and downs.
