1946（昭和21）年築の木造建築だそうです。戦後すぐに木材が調達できて大きな建物を建てられたことが驚きです。ダンスホール、後にナイトクラブです。
子どもの頃、伊勢佐木町辺りの映画館に映画を観に行くと必ずここの宣伝フィルムが流れました。「クリフサイド」の「ド」の字の濁点がキランと光るんです。フィルムでは「ホテル・クリフサイド」と言っていたような記憶があります。
当時からトタン屋根だったのかな。スペイン瓦だったような記憶があるのですが。

I’ve come to realise that lockdown has made every day seem like hump day (aka Wednesday) when you feel the excitement for the weekend - but in lockdown it never arrives. In an attempt to brighten my own mood I have taken to doing my government mandated daily walk with large googly eyes in my pocket just in case a potential installment situation reveals itself. Imagine my delight when I spotted an actual hump sign that was just begging for an anthropomorphic update. My work here is done.

Have you ever met a spy? It’s statistically pretty likely that you may have done and not known about it. It’s the nature of the job. Hence all the secrecy. Lady Penelope Partridge here (not her real name obviously) is a spyhunter. She prowls the country seeking ne’er-do-wells and is good at her job too. The best in the business. But it’s a tough life involving subterfuge, deception and assumed identities. Much like being an artist really.
Do you know what’s also tough? Shading. And photography in a confined space. But we do our best. So just remember if Lady P comes a-knocking then it’s already too late.
