The IPU's 2026 Parliamentary Hearing at the United Nations considers the ways in which parliaments and the UN can work better together to deliver a more prosperous, sustainable, just and peaceful world, in the context of the UN80 reform initiative.

The discussions are informed by the Pact for the Future, the main roadmap toward a renewed multilateral system with the UN at its center, as well as the 2026 UNGA resolution “Interaction between the United Nations, national parliaments and the Inter-Parliamentary Union.”

This is a view from the top floor of one of the buildings at the Lawai Beach Resort, looking northward at all of the development that's currently going on here on the south side of Kaua'i. What a double-edged sword: it's bringing work and revenue to the island and its residents and yet also in a way ruining the place. Over 1500 houses are to be built here, with lots selling at up to 4 million just for the precious red dirt alone. Would it be any surprise if the bulk of the profit from this development didn't go to the locals?
