As soon as Toby Turtle, the famous animal inventor, heard about Trappist-1 he was hard at work building a rover. Unfortunately, when the NASA contract asked for an "amphibious" rover, they may not have considered how a turtle would look at it ...

(Toby Turtle has a much bigger project coming soon that's been taking up most of my building time.)

Joseph Aspdin of Leeds patented Portland Cement on 21 October 1924. While it revolutionised modern building, it has also contributed significantly to global warming. Nevertheless, it is not only still much in use but also being further developed to be more eco- and user-friendly as well as self-cleaning.

John Smeaton of Leeds is thought to have created the first modern concrete, a mixture of limestone and clay which was resistant to water, whilst he was preparing his work on the Eddystone Lighthouse around 1755.

the park was closed permanently on Oct. 14, 1993.

In August of 2014, Charles L. Pelsor (the inventor of the spill less doggy bowl) purchased the property for a little over 8 million American dollars. In October 2014, he and some volunteers started renovating the remaining buildings and cleaning up the park. On December 6 and 7 of 2014, he gave two "river walk" tours. Future plans are to come.

My build for Round 3 of The Tourney at MOCpages. Halhi141, Infernum, and Brick all gave me helpful suggestions for this build. Credit for the lantern design goes to Brick, though I modified it slightly. This was an extremely fun build. I tilted the wood sections using ball joints, for the first time. The idea of the build was to create a wacky, and whimsical atmosphere. Hence the unusual colorscheme for the build.

There's a full interior, and the elevator actually works. Also Amfridus has devised a bucket system whereby he procures water without leaving his home.

Amfridus the Inventor lives in his tower outside of Guaire. Unlike some inventors, he is very friendly. Naysayers claim his chemical experiments have polluted the stream which runs by his home, but the plentiful aquatic life seems to show otherwise. Rego and Dedan pay Amfridus a visit hoping to procure some new inventions and potions that will give them an edge in The Tourney.

I made this guy in early 2018, and i personally consider him to be a massive turning point in my proficiency as a builder. The moc itself is a reimagining of an older character in a much sleeker refined style, which ended up being something i would try and stick to ever since.

The old photo i have of him is a bit outdated now as i made several minor changes to the moc each time i went to a new convention or fixed him up from a shelf fall, so i figured he deserved a new photoshoot. I like this pose a lot more too.

Almonte (pop 5,000) is a former mill town located 40 km Southwest of Ottawa. The majority of the early settlers were Scottish and later Irish. A textile town almost from the start, by 1850 it was the home of seven busy woolen mills.

After the last textile mill closed in the early 1980s, Almonte no longer had a dominant industry. It has since turned its attention towards tourism. It offers museums and several historical spots, such as the home of James Naismith, the inventor of basketball, and the Mississippi Valley Textile Museum.

Almonte retains much of its 19th-century architecture. The former Almonte post office, designed in 1889 by Thomas Fuller (the architect of the Parliament Buildings), and the Rosamond Woollen Mill, the largest 19th-century textile mill in Canada, are both designated as National Historic Sites of Canada.

The Mississippi River which runs through Almonte has no connection with the U.S. river of the same name.

The inventor of Meccano was the Englishman Frank Hornby (1863-1936), who was an accountant at the time of its invention. He came up with the idea of building system after he started to make canned toys for his two sons to in 1899. He built bridges, trucks and cranes, but the components were not interchangeable. At one point, however, he realized that if he could make that faster with bolts interchangeable parts, he could manufacture various models. Then he began to experiment with strips of copper plate with holes at a distance of half an inch.

Hattie: Hello, what are you doing?

Tina: I'm inventing kids. Duh! What does it look like?

Hattie: Perhaps kidnapping to start with. Then unscrupulous handling of minors.

Tina: Pah! My dear child, this is science at its best. Only this little chap didn't fit in the oven. A setback I'll admit.

Hattie: Hm. Oh, that little nipper is getting away.

Tina: Quick! Grab the tongs and get him! He'll fit in there for sure.

Arnold Henry Savage Landor (June 2, 1865 - December 26, 1924) - a half-naked Ainu brings a boat ashore (1890) - oil on panel - Exhibition "Painting Asia from life" - MAO, Museum of Oriental Art, Turin

Explorer, adventurer, writer, photographer, journalist and inventor: Arnold Henry Savage Landor (1865-1924) is an extremely interesting figure, who had great success in life and, for still unclear reasons, fell into oblivion after his death.

Savage Landor was born in Florence to an English father and an Italian mother. He spent his childhood and adolescence in very lively intellectual circles, where literature and art were daily passions. Among his teachers was Stefano Ussi (1822-1901), who sensed the young man's skills and suggested his family to let him devote to painting. Leaving home to discover the world, young Henry first visited some countries in North Africa and America, then moved to Asia: Japan, Korea, China, where he made hundreds of paintings in real life.

The documentary uniqueness of his creations is evident: at a time when the immediacy of photography was already being exploited, he long insisted on painting en plein air.

Although he was well aware of Orientalist painting, he stayed strictly away from its edulcorated, fantastical visions and from its meticulously classic style, preferring to plunge into the real world of Asia and portray it in a modern artistic manner.

The style of the Anglo-Florentine artist, quick and concise, proves to be extremely effective in "photographing" places and people who would have completely changed after a few decades as a result of the incipient globalization.

Fort Myers or Ft. Myers, is the county seat and commercial center of Lee County, Florida, United States. It has grown rapidly in recent years. As of the 2010 census, the city population was 62,298 and in 2018 was estimated at 82,254.

Fort Myers is a gateway to the Southwest Florida region and a major tourist destination within Florida. The winter estates of Thomas Edison ("Seminole Lodge") and Henry Ford ("The Mangoes") are major attractions. The city is named after Colonel Abraham Myers.

Spain originally had colonial influence in Florida, succeeded by Great Britain and, lastly, the United States. During the American Indian Wars of the 1830s, the United States built Fort Myers as one of the first forts along the Caloosahatchee River; it was used as a base of operations against the Seminole. During the Seminole Wars and Indian Removal period, Fort Myers was a strategic location, with access to Atlantic waterways. While many Seminole were forced to remove to Indian Territory west of the Mississippi River, others used their knowledge of the Everglades and Florida wilderness to resist the Americans. They were never defeated and two federally recognized Seminole tribes still control some of their historic territory.

During the American Civil War, Confederate blockade runners and cattle ranchers were based in Fort Myers. These settlers prospered through trading with the Seminole and Union soldiers.

The Fort Myers community was founded after the American Civil War by Captain Manuel A. Gonzalez on February 21, 1866. Captain Gonzalez was familiar with the area as a result of his years of service delivering mail and supplies to the Union Army at the Fort during the Seminole Indian Wars and Civil War.[ When the U.S. Government abandoned the fort following the Civil War, Gonzalez sailed from Key West, Florida to found the community. Three weeks later, Joseph Vivas and his wife, Christianna Stirrup Vivas, arrived with Gonzalez's wife, Evalina, and daughter Mary.

Gonzalez settled his family near the abandoned Fort Myers, where he began the area's first trading post. Gonzalez traded tobacco, beads, and gunpowder, and sold otter, bobcat, and gator hide, to the neighboring Seminole. A small community began to form around the trading post.

In the late 19th century, northerners began to travel to Florida in the winter. Some saw development opportunities. In 1881, the wealthy industrialist Hamilton Disston of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania came to the Caloosahatchee Valley. He planned to dredge and drain the Everglades for development. Diston connected Lake Okeechobee with the Caloosahatchee River; this allowed steamboats to run from the Gulf of Mexico to Lake Okeechobee and up the Kissimmee River.

On August 12, 1885, the small town of Fort Myers—all 349 residents—was incorporated. By that time, it was the second-largest town on Florida's Gulf Coast south of Cedar Key.

In 1885, inventor Thomas Alva Edison was cruising Florida's west coast and stopped to visit Fort Myers. He soon bought 13 acres along the Caloosahatchee River in town. There he built his home "Seminole Lodge", as a winter retreat. It included a laboratory for his continuing work. After the Lodge was completed in 1886, Edison and his wife, Mina, spent many winters in Fort Myers. Edison also enjoyed local recreational fishing, for which Fort Myers had gained a national reputation.

In 1898, the Royal Palm Hotel was constructed. This luxury hotel attracted many tourists and established Fort Myers nationally as a winter resort destination.
