Grand Manan has a rich maritime history. By 1851, most of the island’s population of 1,200 was involved in the working waterfront; men fished and women pickled and cured herring. Innovative fishing and seaweed harvesting techniques were developed, including weir fishing, torch fishing, and lobster fishing, with the introduction of lobster traps in 1870.
The island’s fishing industry changed with the end of smoked herring in the late 20th century, but it still lives in lobstering, scalloping, weir fishing, dulse harvesting, and pen salmon aquaculture. (Island Institute)

Saddlebacks were widespread in New Zealand, but their numbers rapidly declined following the introduction of predatory mammals, especially ship rats and stoats, by early settlers. By the early 1900s, North Island saddlebacks were confined to a single Island off the northeast coast of the North Island. A series of successful bird translocations started in the 1960s. There are now 15 island populations and five at predator-fenced mainland sites.
The population here on the Tawharanui Peninsula were introduced in 2012, and they are now thriving in the relatively safe predator-fenced environment.
So called because of the formal layout of the garden at Loseley Hall and the modern sculptures in the background which seem to be figures meeting.
So, I finally found Mie's daughter after she ran off from the last location and she introduced me to her favorite Auntie...and I can see why. Look at all those toys!

Stella is introduced to Daisy - showed appropriate respect for the older dog for all of a day. Then puppy teeth and playtime needs took over, and well, Daisy likes to have lots of time away from the puppy!

This amazing gentleman Dale has the car in the carport. He loves his MGA and used to drive it and I think he may take it around the block a time or two. Dale has Cerebral Palsy, doctors told his mother that he had a very short mortality rate. His selfish mother gave him up. Nothing can stop this 78 year old man. He worked for Florida Department of Transportation, he was an inspector for signs, reflectors, lighting. He wanted to take me for a ride, not wanting to hurt his feelings, I said next time. Dale lives alone and I thank the family who helps when needed. My Easter touched my heart 💜

This shot was taken on the first day of the Annapurna Sanctuary trail. The altitude was still very low at approximately 1500m and every bit of usable land tilled. We wouldn't see mountains until the next day but the scenery was still no less breathtaking in a way that I didn't really expect.
