Falling waters induce feelings of euphoria, elation and exhilaration for me. Along with mountain peaks they help me realize how small and petty many of my worries are in the big picture of the planet and life. I find them intoxicating, always looking forward to the next reboot.
This is Alaska's Virgin Creek Falls. Had it to myself. Was hard to leave.
Old Man Winter has us in a frigid grip here in Spokane. As in much of the country. Beautiful, yet miserable. Thankfully, the snow will be good for easing the droughts we've had for many years.

The Grand Canal
Venice is an enchanting city that casts visitors under an intoxicating spell. It's dreamy and romantic, with an undercurrent of mystery and drama.
Venice, the capital of northern Italy’s Veneto region, is built on more than 100 small islands in a lagoon in the Adriatic Sea. It has no roads, just canals – including the Grand Canal thoroughfare – lined with Renaissance and Gothic palaces.
The central square, Piazza San Marco, contains St. Mark’s Basilica, which is tiled with Byzantine mosaics, and the Campanile bell tower offering views of the city’s red roofs.

The smell of hyacinths can be quite overpowering, so this is the effect these beauties had on me ;-)

Amethyst
Amethyst is a violet variety of quartz.
The name comes from the Koine Greek ἀμέθυστος amethystos from ἀ- a-, "not" and μεθύσκω methysko / μεθύω methyo, "intoxicate", a reference to the belief that the stone protected its owner from drunkenness. The ancient Greeks wore amethyst and carved drinking vessels from it in the belief that it would prevent intoxication.
Amethyst is a semiprecious stone often used in jewelry and is the traditional birthstone for February.

Bohemian Waxwings (Bombycilla garrulus) are known to become intoxicated with fermented berries. They even double ferment the berries by storing them in their crop.
Gorgeous birds coming in to my garden in huge flocks probably from Russia,
Waxwings can be very tame in winter, entering towns and gardens in search of food, rowan berries being a particular favourite. They can metabolise alcohol produced in fermenting fruit, but can still become intoxicated, sometimes fatally.

There's something so special about glacial waters (also called glacial milk). The glacial rock flour turns the melted glacial runoff into this gorgeous teal/turquoise color, unlike normal rivers colored brown or blue.
The Mistaya River originates from the Peyto Glacier and it's beloved dog shaped lake.
It is a short walk from the Icefield Parkway to stand here. There is a deep, narrow canyon just after this scene. Once visited, I suspect you too will be intoxicated.

The sun this afternoon was amazing...so I played around in it. Most of these next several photos are involved directly with the sun.
AMETHYST Quartz Crystal is a lavendar to purple variety of quartz minerals...It gains its colour from Gamma irradiation and trace amounts of Iron...And, it is from the Greek word "Amethystos" which translates to "not intoxicated"! ;-)
