perhaps also curious...a Pale Chanting Goshawk juvenile (my first sighting of one) in Etosha. I was almost at the same level as it, in a big overland truck and it was on the top of a small tree, as I started to photograph, it became more curious about the sound of my camera and instead of flying away stayed to entertain our group who were fascinated by the way it was interacting with us...
This impressive Rocky Mountain ewe was the "Leader of the Pack" on tundra peak of Mt. Evans, Colorado. She led the small herd down from the summit. The ewes and youngsters stood behind her as she faced the challenges of hikers in their path. And, she had the most intimidating stature and and stare... .

encounter on foot with a male Eastern Grey Kangaroo in Queensland, Australia. This was one of the largest males of a mob of 30 to 40.
The Eastern Grey is the second largest kangaroo species with males up to 1.3m tall (well over 4 ft) and weighing up to 66kg (145lbs)

He's a big boy! A bear rarely lives to old age due to human activity. An old bear in the wild is 20 years old. If humans did not interfere a bear could conceivably live to 30, sometimes 40 or more years. Before this picture I had no idea black bears had white on their chest.
Osprey looking tough but actually just catching his balance after landing on a low snag on Armand Bayou.
A pair of signalers geese also live in the Museum's Garden. They always seem to be in a bad mood but I have seen them in contact with children without the slightest problem.
In fact, they are of the species Anser Cygnoide, originally from the wet and flooded regions of Asia (particularly China) where they can feed on grasses, leaves, seeds, slugs and mollusks.
Geese of this species are nicknamed "Signalers" because they are excellent guard geese, capable of giving unmistakable signals when a stranger approaches. They have keen hearing, unrivaled vision and an eye structure that allows them to see more clearly than humans and dogs.
In addition, they have a fantastic sense of direction and great ferocity in the demarcation of their territory, which makes them excellent guards. There is no use trying to deceive them with any kind of gift.
Chinese signalers geese can be white or brown, and it is from this last lineage that I now present in these photos.
The big buck wasn't intimidated by the two Great Pyrenees dogs on the bank of the river. Great Pyrenees are gentle and are often used as guardian livestock dogs. There was a band of sheep in a nearby field and evidently the dogs wanted a little variety in their day.

Intimidating or scary heights, none stop noise from birds, stunning sight of monstrous cliffs. How should we describe the westernmost place you can reach in Iceland. Yes, you are at Látrabjarg, but you might as well be at the edge of the world. Látrabjarg is simply not easy to describe; it has to be experienced. It consists of four cliffs, Keflavíkurbjarg, Látrabjarg, Bæjarbjarg, and Breiðavíkurbjarg. Altogether 14 km long and the height is 441 m., and as steep as steep can get. Standing by the edge gives you a whirling sensation, which doesn't fade the longer you stay. Indeed, it will stay with you for a long time afterward. If you are near the edge with a camera on your face, don't move until you have a clear sight and the camera is away from your eyes and nose.

Jesus came to bring spiritual LIFE to the spiritually dead and set the captives FREE! FREE from RELIGION, ERROR and outright LIES, so WE might serve THE LIVING GOD! In SPIRIT and in TRUTH!
So you'll KNOW, and not think you're to bad for God to love. The Christian LIFE isn't about how good WE are, because NONE of us are! It's about how GOOD JESUS IS! Because JESUS LOVES US, so much he died in our place and took the punishment for all of our sins on himself. The wages of sin is DEATH, and Jesus took the death WE so richly deserved for us and died in our place. The good news is, there's no more punishment for sin left. We're at the stage in hummer living where one lil guy will still attempt to monopolize their own feeder, especially fun to watch when they're trying to fend off others from two feeders at once.
Pretty soon the numbers will be overwhelming, and they all share, but for now they're enjoying hassling each other.
This guy came right up to my office window to test my resolve-I stood firm believing in the window between us....

Male Baboons can be quite intimidating.

Called Tachnid Fly or White-face Fly, this fierce looking insect was really something to watch. It not only flew erratically, but it tried to attack other bugs in its proximity. If I were an insect, I wouldn't want to mess with this one! Best viewed by zooming in.

An intimidating look to say the least. In the urban forests, like here at the Maizeret parc, the Great horned owl control his territory and leaves no room for other owl. He will hunt or eat the barred owl and other smaller species.
Un regard pour le moin dire intimidant. Dans les forêts hurbaines , comme ici au domaine Maizeret, le grand-duc contrôle sont territoire et ne laisse aucune place aux autres respèces de hiboux. Il va chasser ou manger la chouette rayée et autres espèces plus petites.
I take pictures at Fairchild Garden every Sunday. A few weeks ago I was thrilled to see 5 young Iguanas on a Palm Tree! Now they are growing up under the watchful eye of this young adult. They scattered as I approached to take this shot.
Important to know: Iguanas are capable of severely injuring people, other animals and themselves when their body language signals are not recognized. Most iguanas clearly sign that trouble is ahead. They nod their head and wave their dewlap side to side. The dewlap is a fold of loose skin hanging from the neck or throat of an animal, such as a cow.
Iguanas use their dewlap to communicate. First, an extended dewlap can simply be a greeting, away to say hello to another creature during mating but most generally as a territorial sign. Second, it can be a form of protection. A threatened iguana may extend its dewlap to intimidate a predator into thinking it is much larger than it is. Third, an extended dewlap may be a sign that the iguana is trying to adjust its temperature. An extended dewlap on an iguana basking in the sun is quite normal. It may be catching more sun to warm up or a breeze to cool off. So it's important to see "the big picture" when reading Iguana body language.

Grizzley mom and her 2 cubs spent a magical 2 hour with them at one point her and her cub where only 30 to 40 feet from us she was not pursued in anyway she came to us on a 4 man zodiac and our guide her cubs swam across first she ate a dozen salmon then took her last one across between us an cubs she then did something unexpected an walked up to us on shore line there was only 8 inches of water in river bed There was a bit of an adrenaline rush there for a bit she was very calm no sign of aggression then took her cubs in to nurse on the edge of woods

Though I did spot a spirit bear {Kermode ] along with another couple on back of boat it didn't stick around for a photoshoot awesome to see one of the rarest mammals in North America though we where only the 3rd group to see one this year so we where told .

Malbork Castle is the most powerful fortress in medieval Europe that has survived to this day.
The entire complex covers an area of approx. 21 ha.
The residence of the Grand Masters of the Teutonic Order is intimidating in its size, and no wonder. After all, we are talking about the largest fully preserved castle in the world. You need to reserve at least a few hours to visit this site.
The castle complex was built in the 12th century on the banks of the Nogat River and was the seat of the Teutonic State for 150 years.
Initially, it was the conventual seat of the commander, and from 1309, after the capital of the Order was moved from Venice to Malbork, it became the seat of the Grand Masters of the Teutonic Order and the authorities of the Teutonic Prussia.
During the reconstruction, which lasted almost 40 years, the conventual castle was transformed into a fortified stronghold (High Castle), surrounded by moats and rings of defensive walls. The expanded outer bailey became the Middle Castle. In the 14th and 15th centuries, the third part of the stronghold was built – the Low Castle. The entire complex was surrounded by moats and defensive walls. Access to the stronghold was also defended by numerous towers.
The castle in Malbork is not only one of the finest examples of medieval defensive and residential architecture in Central Europe, but also the largest Gothic castle in the world that has survived to this day.
In 1997, during the 21st plenary session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee in Naples, a motion to include the Malbork Castle complex on the UNESCO list was passed unanimously.
Thus, Malbork Castle became the eighth site in Poland to be included on this most prestigious list of treasures of our civilisation.

A dominant bull elk displays a posture that I think is meant to make himself look as dominating and intimidating as possible. No bugling, just head raised as high as possible and a rather fierce "expression".

And I'm excited and intimidated and awed all at once. In fact, I was so excited I didn't sleep well last night, so I'm a weird mixture of excited and sleepy. :-)
But I had to do a test, of course. So here's a picture of the box shot at ISO 6400. *This* is why I wanted this camera, folks! Look how clean this is. There's some noise, sure, but nothing like the D300 at the same ISO.
