Groenesteeg Cemetery lies on a small island surrounded by canals on the eastern end of Leiden. No famous poets or musicians lie buried under these gravestones, but "de Eere der Burgerij", the cream of early XIX century Leiden bourgeoisie: industrials, traders, administrators, explorers, scientists.
