During the nineteenth century, earthworks lowered the level of the street, making it impossible to use the original entrances. They were bricked up, but can still be seen on the elevation. Today the entrance is from via Capponi, through a small staircase built for this purpose. After a long period of restoration, the church was reopened to the public in 2006.

Not rock bottom, but getting close. The flophouse (doss-house in Britain) is a low budget option for a not-so-quality night's sleep--unless you happen to be.a roach. I doubt they leave the light on for you.

I was, standing on the sidewalk gazing in a window at a flat screen TV mounted on the opposite wall of a narrow foyer. The TV was streaming an interior scene from God knows where.
I got to wondering whether it was actually possible to be in the present moment while watching a video from somewhere else. To complicate matters, I'm now looking at picture of the same scene and wondering the same thing--a modern realtime dilemma.
