The aircraft is designated the S102B Korpen (The Raven) in Flygvapnet service the aircraft is used in the SIGINT role. SIGINT is intelligence-gathering by interception of signals, whether between people (COMINT) or involving electronic signals not directly used in communication (ELINT) and can be a combinations of the two. Based at Malmen in the east of the country with 73 SIGINT Squadron, the aircraft were procured in 1995 to replace the outdated TP85 Sud Aviation Caravelle which had been in service since 1971. The Aircraft was finally retiered in 1998 after the S102B gained it Full mission capability. Both aircraft fitted out for the role come under the command of Transport & Special Flights Unit who are responsible for the care and maintenance of the SIS Division aircraft. Flown with a crew of 6 (pilot, co-pilot and four system operators), the aircraft is externally characterised by sensor fairings on either side of its nose and forward fuselage, a canoe fairing below its forward fuselage and an array of hook and blade antennas installed on the lower surfaces of its wings, fuselage centre section and rear fuselage. The S 102B provides intelligence data for the Swedish government's security agency (the FRA), the SF and the Swedish Navy. When operating with the armed services, the Korpen down links data directly to combined air operations centres and navy surface combatants. The two aircraft got the individual names “Hugin” and “Munin” after the Scandiavian ancient God Oden’s two ravens, who saw everything that happened in the world.

The Death of Talos – the Triumph of Intelligence over Strength

South Italian red-figure column-krater.

Probably Campanian, late 4th century BCE.

Museo Archeologico Nazionale del Sannio Caudino, Montesarchio. wm

The vase illustrates the dramatic final moments of Talos, the gigantic bronze guardian of Crete. Unlike many heroic combats in Greek art, this scene emphasizes strategy rather than violence.

At the centre, the bronze giant Talos is already collapsing. His powerful body has lost its balance, while two Argonauts behind him—generally identified as the Dioscuri (Castor and Polydeuces/Pollux)—attempt to support his falling weight. Their role is not that of attackers but of witnesses to the giant's inevitable defeat.

At the lower left, a young Argonaut kneels beside Talos' vulnerable ankle. Instead of striking with a weapon, he carefully manipulates a small object with both hands. The artist directs the viewer's attention to the giant's only weak point: the opening in the ankle through which the divine life-fluid (ichor) escapes.

Immediately beneath the wound sits a small winged figure, plausibly Thanatos, the personification of Death. Rather than acting as a passive symbol, he appears to participate in the event itself. His right hand steadies him against Talos' heel, while his left hand seems to hold a small vessel beneath the wound, as if receiving the escaping ichor. If this observation is correct, the painter has transformed Death into an active participant in Talos' final moments.

On the left stands Medea, calm and composed, holding a casket or container associated with her magical arts. Significantly, she neither attacks nor gestures dramatically. Her detached presence suggests that her decisive contribution has already taken place. Throughout Greek mythology Medea repeatedly overcomes seemingly invincible opponents not by physical force but through the use of pharmaka—potions, drugs or magical substances. One is reminded of the Colchian dragon guarding the Golden Fleece, which she similarly subdued before Jason could accomplish his task. The vase may therefore depict not the struggle itself but its final consequence: Talos has already been rendered helpless, allowing the Argonaut to remove the fatal plug from his ankle.

The composition beautifully illustrates a recurring Greek idea: intelligence and cunning defeat brute strength. Talos is not overcome by superior force but by knowledge, deception and precise action. The giant's enormous physical power proves useless once his single vulnerable point has been discovered.

The scene differs considerably from the famous Jatta Krater, where Medea, the Argonauts and the death of Talos are presented within a more elaborate narrative. Here the painter concentrates almost exclusively on the decisive instant when the bronze guardian's divine life finally leaves his body.

This is a very unusual image and clearly one that was used to identify police and military figures for future reference. A line of people stand in honour of a funeral or some form of remembrance. And while the photographer, perhaps unintentionally, captures their image it is later used to identify them. Who might have been privy to such information and why might it have been used?

Intelligence uncovered a weapons exchange between the financier Cerium and the arms dealer Cobalt, where the terrorist cell responsible for the oil platform attack also surfaced. A team from the Special Mission Unit was tasked to kill/capture those at the exchange.

The team from the Special Mission Unit was able to use the heavy foliage to conceal their advance. They reached the meeting location without detection and was able to achieve the element of surprise.

Only two members of the terrorist cell were able to notice the team approaching. They attempted to resist and were killed. The remainder were captured and the team immediately restrained them and moved them to an HLZ (Helicopter Landing Zone) for extraction. The team also prepared explosive charges to detonate the weapons and munitions recovered at the scene.

On March 1, the seventh annual military and federal fellow research symposium featured the independent research produced by members of the military services and federal agencies who are currently serving at think-tanks and universities across the nation. Organized by the fellows themselves, the symposium provides a platform for building greater awareness of the cutting-edge work that America’s military and governmental leaders are producing on key national security policy issues.

With presidential primary season well underway, it’s clear that whoever emerges in November 2016 as the next commander-in-chief will have their hands full with a number of foreign policy and national security choices. This year’s panels explored these developing issues and their prospects for resolution after the final votes have been counted. During their keynote conversation, the Honorable Michèle Flournoy discussed her assessment of the strategic threat environment with General John Allen, USMC (Ret.), who also provided opening remarks on strategic leadership and the importance of military and other federal fellowship experiences.

A conceptual visual narrative exploring the dramatic life cycle of a wetland ecosystem. The collection transitions from vibrant, misty mornings filled with rich mosses, crystal dew, and pristine water channels, to the stark, textured reality of severe environmental drought and parched, cracked earth.
