Seguendo i tour di alcuni cari e rinomati amici contrabbassisti abbiamo imparato che uno strumento così importante come il contrabbasso richiede accessori "minimal", proprio come il nostro "cavo acustico" RIC01-A Double Bass, dotato “di misura specifica”. Quando si parla di cablaggio audio, la lunghezza del cavo di segnale è infatti uno dei parametri che influenzano la resa sonora di uno strumento musicale, anche in presenza di cavi sbilanciati di altissima qualità e pertanto meno soggetti all'attenuazione del segnale.
Ottimizzare la lunghezza del cavo è importante per venire incontro alle esigenze logistiche dovute a uno specifico setup strumentale e per minimizzare quanto più possibile anche la più piccola perdita di segnale. Ciò è ancor più importante per uno strumento dal timbro così caratteristico come il contrabbasso, le cui frequenze tipiche si trovano in un campo estremo dell’udibile e per il quale la differenza tra suono acustico e suono amplificato è molto marcata e spesso percepita dai contrabbassisti come una condanna a cui rassegnarsi.
Se si sceglie di non utilizzare microfoni refrattari all'innesco, qual è il rimedio al suono "medioso e artefatto" dato dal trasduttore piezo-elettrico? In quest'ambito la qualità del piezo ed il cavo di segnale sono d'importanza cruciale.
Il cavo RIC01-A di Reference Laboratory, con la sua costruzione innovativa e la sua bassa capacità, è in grado di restituire un'immagine sonora enormemente ampia, potente, dettagliata e armonicamente completa. Ha già dimostrato a molti contrabbassisti che portare in un amplificatore il suono del proprio strumento acustico mantenendo fedele il suo timbro non è più un miraggio. La sua conduzione "simmetrica" (massa e segnale identici) elimina qualsiasi sbilanciamento nel percorso del segnale restituendo un suono rotondo e lineare su tutto lo spettro sonoro, e mantenendo intatti quei rapporti timbrici tra le armoniche fondamentali e quelle superiori che caratterizzano l'identità sonora del proprio strumento.
Nonostante l'elevata impedenza di uscita tipica dei sistemi piezo, il cavo RIC01-A è in grado di offrire un sensibile miglioramento del rapporto segnale-rumore (immunità da ronzii e varie interferenze elettriche) nonché di limitare l'effetto reattanza, maggiore responsabile della perdita delle basse frequenze. Saranno così disposizione dell'ampli una serie di armonici, quelli più profondi, che normalmente non venivano trasmessi e che rendevano il suono finto e nasale obbligando a "pompare" le note più basse con preamplificatori o equalizzatori e perciò rendendo il suono ancor più innaturale.
Ora, col cavo "RIC01-A Double Bass" abbiamo fatto di più. A seguito di numerosi test comparativi, prove audiometriche e suggerimenti di noti professionisti, abbiamo valutato che per il range di frequenze tipiche del contrabbasso la lunghezza ottimale del cavo sia di 2,4 metri, al fine di ottimizzare il trasferimento del segnale riproducendo un suono ancor più fedele all’originale acustico dello strumento.
Se è pur vero, che la lunghezza del cavo è direttamente proporzionale alla sua capacità e resistività, questo non deve portare semplicisticamente a pensare che "più corto è il cavo migliore sarà la qualità del suono".
La lunghezza di 2,4 metri è stata infatti studiata non solo per offrire la minore attenuazione possibile sulle alte frequenze, ma anche per garantire il massimo trasferimento di energia, cioè il miglior rapporto tra segnale diretto e riflesso calcolato sulla lunghezza d'onda delle armoniche fondamentali del contrabbasso, eliminando la minima cancellazione del segnale.
Il risultato è un suono estremamente naturale, limpido sulle frequenze alte, caldo e potente su quelle più basse… insomma, un suono più profondo e pieno e allo stesso tempo più definito e presente. Il vero suono del tuo contrabbasso.

Se la differenza sonora che si ha collegando un buon cavo piuttosto che un cavo mediocre ad una chitarra elettrica può essere enorme, in una chitarra acustica è…ABISSALE!
L’alta impedenza tipica dei pick-up piezo evidenzia i limiti di un cablaggio scadente nella corretta trasmissione del segnale ed il cosiddetto ”collo di bottiglia” può snaturare pesantemente l’immagine sonora originale dello strumento acustico.
