... eigentlich war der Schlosshof ja bereits seit einer halben Stunde geschlossen! ;-)
Schloss Friedenstein wurde von 1643-1654 erbaut und ist die größte frühbarocke Schlossanlage Deutschlands.
Die ehemalige Residenz der Kurfürsten von Sachsen-Coburg-Gotha erhebt sich auf dem 311 m hohen Schlossberg über der Altstadt von Gotha in Thüringen.
Das von Herzog Ernst I. - dem Frommen - errichtete, vierflügelige Bauwerk mit den zwei charakteristischen Türmen ist weitgehend gut erhalten. Von außen ist das Schloss größtenteils unverziert und wirkt eher schlicht; was der Bauherr beabsichtigte, war Klarheit von Form und Funktionalität.
Im Inneren beherbergt die Anlage jedoch zahlreiche herrlich gestaltete Räume und Säle, die seit Jahrhunderten ihre originale Form und Einrichtung behalten haben.
Weitere Institutionen und Sehenswürdigkeiten, die zur Schlossanlage gehören, sind das Schlossmuseum, das Museum für Regionalgeschichte und Kultur, das Museum der Natur, Archiv und Bibliothek, die Kasematten, der Park und der gepflegte Orangeriegarten.

THE SMALL HAMLET OF WINGDALE, within the town of Dover, New York, is home to the ruins of the Harlem Valley Psychiatric Center.
Despite its proximity to New York State Route 22, the stunningly beautiful property has been shrouded in mystery for decades. In 1924, The Harlem Valley State Hospital opened its doors to the public. Later to be renamed the Harlem Valley Psychiatric Center, the hospital was chartered “for the care and treatment of the insane” and included infrastructure that had previously constituted the Wingdale Prison.
Over the course of 70 years of operation, the facility treated thousands of patients who had been deemed mentally ill. Sprawling across almost 900 acres and encompassing more than 80 buildings, the hospital had its own golf course, bowling alley, baseball field, bakery, and a massive dairy farm that supported an in-house ice cream parlor. At its peak, the facility housed 5,000 patients and 5,000 employees.
Over the years, the Harlem Valley Psychiatric Center adopted numerous experimental methods of treatment of the mentally ill. In the 1930s, the facility joined several other institutions on the vanguard of a new insulin shock therapy for the treatment of patients with schizophrenia and other compulsive disorders. Later, when the method of electro-shock therapy was created, the hospital was again a pioneer in implementing the method as a treatment for its patients in 1941. When neuropsychiatrist Walter Freeman developed a new method for treating a wide range of psychological conditions that became known as a lobotomy, the Harlem Valley Psychiatric Center was the preeminent institution for frontal lobotomy in the state of New York.
As with most mental health institutions in New York and across the country, the Harlem Valley Psychiatric Center saw a gradual decline in enrollment upon the introduction of psychotropic drugs such as thorazine. When the hospital closed its doors in 1994, it had been on a trajectory of decline for a number of years. For the better part of 20 years, the once-busy campus slowly deteriorated. Visited only by night-watchmen and would-be vandals, the buildings sat unused and the grounds slowly grew unkempt. Ghost stories and whispers grew alongside the weeds of the property.

From the end of the 19th century in particular, the bridge has featured in Turkish literature, theater, poetry and novels. In 1453, during the Conquest of Şehr-i İstanbul, the Turks assembled a mobile bridge by placing their ships side by side across the water, so that their troops could move from one side of the Golden Horn (Haliç) to the other.
Golden Horn Bridge designed by Leonardo da Vinci in 1502. In the years 1502–1503, there were plans to construct the first bridge at the current location. Sultan Beyazıt II solicited a design and Leonardo da Vinci, utilizing three well-known geometrical principles, the pressed-bow, parabolic curve and keystone arch, created an unprecedented single span 240 m long and 24 m wide bridge for the Golden Horn, which would have become the longest bridge in the world of that time, had it been constructed. The Lloyd's building is the home of the insurance institution Lloyd's of London, and is located at One Lime Street, in the City of London, England.
It was designed by architect Richard Rogers and built between 1978 and 1986. Bovis were the management contractor for the scheme. [1] Like the Pompidou Centre (designed by Renzo Piano and Rogers), the building was innovative in having its services such as staircases, lifts, electrical power conduits and water pipes on the outside, leaving an uncluttered space inside. The 12 glass lifts were the first of their kind in the UK.

Unfortunately, the old cemetery from the former Dixon State School is not being maintained again. About 10 years back,the lack of care and maintenance was brought to the city and the problem was corrected...temporarily it seems. Now these unfortunate souls are being disrespected again...
Dixon State School was a state run mental institution. It was told mentally and physically challenged people were routinely dropped off there. It had a popular nursing school for many years. It closed in the late '70s,early '80s as private care and more focused rehab facilities became the go to. It is said this sad cemetery contains as many as 1000 unmarked graves....
Auditorium used for science lectures. Some are featured on TV including with Professor Brian Cox. Building includes The Faraday Museum.

“When you find different materials, you want to tell different stories.” With this deceptively simple assertion, Markham-based, Kurdish-born artist Roda Medhat situates material not merely as a medium but a narrative engine. Roda’s work operates in the fertile space where craft, memory, and digital fabrication intersect, and where materials such as soft wool, buoyant inflatable vinyl, and glowing neon each carry their own cultural meanings. The Art Gallery of Burlington’s (AGB) winter 2026 season marks the artist’s first solo exhibition in a public institution, offering a sensory playground where textiles and sculptures act as storytellers.
As someone who lived between cultures, migrating at a young age, Roda’s practice emerged from the intersections of generation and place. Roda is interested in how diasporic memory operates, how war and media spectacle shape collective memory, and how to reclaim erased or overlooked narratives by folding, deflating, and breaking them. Roda draws from a constellation of sources from archival texts to children’s stories and vernacular architecture to the geometric language of West Asian and Kurdish textiles. In this way, his works become speculative archives, weaving forgotten or oversimplified histories into forms that are pliant, luminous, and resolutely alive.
Things I Can Fold, Deflate, and Break splits the gallery in thirds, diving into distant modes of light, sound and movement, resulting in a unified environment in which material and narrative coexist and merge through one another. Flickering lights, low hums from inflatable fans, and tactile shifts from wool to plastic produce a multisensory choreography that guides the viewer through Roda’s world.
The exhibition title, simple and playful, serves as a reflection of how the space itself changed with Roda’s work – folding, deflating / inflating, and bending materials – these gestures extend beyond physical manipulation as they mirror the ways he reshapes narrative itself. Through repositioning and replanting source material, teasing apart small elements and details, Roda allows stories to fold into one another (both materially and metaphorically), braiding their meanings back again into the larger plot.
Many a time I've been wondering whether there is a "pathway", a "recipe" that leads a specific profession or activity to the top of its peers' list ? Whether there are quality characteristics of steady nature, whose presence boosts a given venture into a diachronic success, while their absence turn other similar ventures to subsequent mediocrity and gradual oblivion ?
When I posed this very question to a professor of mine once, he came to me with an amazing answer: "The key to success ... " he said " ... in every venture you decide to undertake is to try not to be a little something to almost everybody but to be almost everything to only a bunch of people".
The University of Cambridge followed that recipe and managed to be steadily ranked amongst the top five Academic Institutions of this planet for quite a few centuries now. It has a reputation that acts like "honey to the bees" to young, gifted minds from all over the globe, while at the same time it unsparingly provides both high standards' academic programs for almost all sciences, as well as an amazing Medieval environment whithin which these programs are followed and completed.
