The Oakdale Workmen's Institute was built in 1917 to serve as a focus for social, educational and cultural life within the newly established coal mining community there. It was funded by a loan from the Tredegar Iron and Coal Company, which the miners then repaid over the following years.

Capel Mair Chapel

Known by many names over the years such as the Cryke Chaple, Hen Egwlys and Capel Mair, the place of worship, established circa 1470 was built as a place of worship for local peasents/yeomen who did not have the right to worship in the Abbey itself. It is a grade 2 listed building situated on the Graig Fawr hillside. Translated the name means 'The chapel of St Mary on the hill' (Capel Mair ar y Bryn)

I had the pleasure of a conversation recently with Tyler from @misc_goods_co at a pop-up event held at @fieldnotesbrand HQ. I had previously eyeballed this black deck of playing cards on their website, and was intent on a purchase.

Considering I’m generally socially awkward, I still managed to eek out a discussion with him about design, creating, and teaching. Tyler's connection to his work was evident as he spoke with passion about how he encountered his own sense of creativity, and about how he explores and creates from a different viewpoint when making art. I really admire his connection to the craftsmanship side of art making.
