The term newsreader originally referred to broadcast anchors reading the day's headlines in a polished Midwestern dialect. But the network anchorman has largely been replaced by cable news talking heads, and the term newsreader now applies to apps which aggregate news headlines, videos, podcasts, and social media posts into your preferred format.

This graphic identifies today's most popular newsreader apps, with the six spokes alternating between active and passive consumption formats. We think that our new newsreader—Guide—captures the best aspects of each category, and puts everything you love about the Internet into one great place.

My current iPhone homescreen.

What changed from the last iteration? I switched back to Safari (it feels faster than Chrome), moved Flipboard, CarTunes and Rowmote (since I didn’t use them that much), switched from native Mail to Gmail (which has a much better support for multiple From addresses), and I added the gorgeous Sun web-app. Also, RunKeeper is back on my homescreen as a permanent reminder for doing more sports.

The photo’s look was inspired by Martin’s blog post.
