Mating Water-lily beetles (Galerucella nymphaeae). -
Seerosenblattkäfer (Galerucella nymphaeae) bei der Paarung. -
Diese 6-7mm lang werdenden Käfer ernähren sich als Larven von der weißen Seerosen, der gelben Teichrose und einigen, wenigen anderen Futterpflanzen. Die beiden zu sehenden Exemplare befinden bei der Paarung auf einem Blatt der weißen Seerose am Rande des Böttchers Moor in der @gemeinde_weyhe , direkt bei der Naturschutzstation des @nabu_weyhe. In den nächsten Wochen werden die Weibchen im Schnitt ein Eipaket (aus ca. 12 Eiern) pro Tag auf die Blattoberseite der Seerosenblätter ablegen. Die daraus schlüpfenden Larven benötigen nach ihrer letzten Häutung für die Metamorphose zum Adultstadium 30-40 Tage. -
A pair of the water-lily beetle in copulation on a water-lily leave. This species has specialized in feeding on water-lily's and few other plants. The females lay about 12 eggs per day. The larvae then feed on the leaves and grow. For the metamorphosis to the adult stage they need 30-40 days.

Some insects are as big as small birds.
“The hummingbird hawk-moth” is a species of hawk moth found across temperate regions of Eurasia. The species is named for its similarity to hummingbirds, as they feed on the nectar of tube-shaped flowers using their long proboscis while hovering in the air; this resemblance is an example of convergent evolution.
