A funnel-web spider of the family Agelenidae sitting in its funnel-shaped web.

The Agelenidae are a large family of spiders in the suborder Araneomorphae. Well-known examples include the common "grass spiders" of the genus Agelenopsis. Nearly all Agelenidae are harmless to humans, but the bite of the hobo spider (Eratigena agrestis) may be medically significant, and some evidence suggests it might cause necrotic lesions, but the matter remains subject to debate.The most widely accepted common name for members of the family is funnel weaver.

It’s been very hot the past few weeks but it’s also been the monsoon season so we get monstrous clouds billowing every afternoon - I was taking some toy photography shots and noticed a ton of bees landing in this little rocky patch of ground. There was a bit of water and mud and I guess the little rock’s made it perfect for them to get to the water without actually landing in the water. Nature is so interesting. There were no flowers anywhere in the vicinity.

Golden orb weaver spider, builds largest sheets of high tensile strength web, that can trap even fast flying birds and reptiles.

Using a stress-testing machine to evaluate the strength of the spider silk, the researchers revealed that the golden orb-weaving spiders silk is up to a hundred times tougher than synthetic products currently being used for medical surgeries.
