Insects move, the wind blows. Please accept this partial bug which I think is cool. I like the golden hairs around the bands.

Cricket on my bedspread

Probably a differential grasshpper, Melanoplus differentialis. This one is yellow, unlike the one I photographed in my yard a couple of days ago. Photo was taken at McKinney Falls State Park near Austin.

Update: Not Melanoplus, but Schistocerca obscura. Thanks, Dave.

Creo que es un Gorgojo pero no estoy seguro (si alguien sabe la especie lo agradezco)

A backyard visitor. Bird activity must be down when you find yourself photographing insects. Still, lots of fun.

Red Palm Weevil

Rød palmesnudebille

This dragonfly was resting on an old flowering spike on an orchid. It was small and I was several metres away so these images were taken on quite high digital zoom. The Canon SX1-IS is much better on digital zoom than the S3-IS is. This was later afternoon but at times some sunlight fell on the dragonfly. I have 3 photos here looking the same, but each one is different. Hope you like them.

Insect found in a hedgerow near the Devil's Arrows.

shy orange ladybug on pink florettes, with sun's reflection

Spotted this Darter resting and taking the last of the sun on my walk the other day..

Unbelievably, I was able to get within a few inches of this magnificent creature, who was so well camouflaged, I'm amazed I even saw him. To get this shot, I had to sit in deer poop and get bitten by mosquitoes, but it was well worth it.

The fields around Mt Mitchell were filled with a variety of flying insects. It sounded as if the whole region was buzzing.
