For this high-contrast capture, I wanted to reduce the beach to its simplest elements: light and shadow. By removing color, the focus shifts entirely to the rhythmic "S-curve" of the tide. The stark white of the sea foam against the dark, wet sand creates a natural boundary, turning a familiar shoreline into a dramatic, abstract landscape.
A glimpse of the challenge of calligraphy, thanks to the Japan day at the Kaetsu Centre, Cambridge.

- each successive column to the left represents the next try
- the column with just three strokes represents some demonstration by the teacher on brush strokes to aim for.
I'm working on a card for this week's 'Thinking Inking' class over at 2peas and my crew wanted to play too. Here's a pic of my little 'Thinking Inkers' in action. :)
I had a prolific evening/late night. Was playing around with different effects I could achieve by varing the application of the inks. Now I just have to find beads to match all these to make into earrings.
Dark blue/purple = hibiscus + orange peel
Yellow ochre = carrot greens + alum
Amber = onion skin
Dark green = African violet
Bright blue = copper oxide
That is the bottom side of the ink plate. Those metal "dogs" catch on another piece, making the plate rotate with every pull of the handle. That is automatic, folks.
Las calaveras son algo que siempre me han gustado, representan la muerte, algo que inevitablemente va a suceder... ¿porqué una calavera? ¿porqué ésta? Como he dicho, significa la muerte pero para morirse hay que haber vivido y esta calavera es la de alguien que ha vivido a tope: flores, plumas, joyas, pájaros.... vida y muerte van de la mano. Vivamos!!!!!

In this photo I dropped food coloring into water with a white backdrop. I used overhead and front facing lights to brighten the color in the water, and shot in manual to keep the focus. I was able to emphasize color in this picture opposed to the subject through overexposing the background to create a high-key effect, contrasting the lights and darks, and slightly saturating the photo to emphasize the blue in the food coloring.
