I could get a squirrel proof one but they have to eat as well even though they don't belong in this country

Our local community gardens have been around for many years so the plots there have evolved their own sense of place and style - which often transcend whomever the stewarding gardener might be. Some of the most wonderful leftover artifacts are the "fences" which are, without a doubt, some of the most unique, artistic and ingenious fences I've ever seen.

Happy Fence Friday, my friends! Have an ingeniously inspiring weekend. :)

Part of the Perseverance mission to Mars, Ingenuity is the helicopter that flies in the Martian atmosphere and sends photos and videos back to Perseverance and from there to NASA on Earth. Ingenuity is more than two years into an intended 30 day mission, far exceeding expectations.

The nests these tiny hummingbirds build are amazing. They are roughly the size of a golf ball. You couldn't duplicate it with your hands and they do it all with their beak. True works of art.

Let me introduce you to the little brother of the great iron lady - Garabit ! 140 years, Happy Birthday - Cantal - Auvergne - France - Europe

Garabit, a superb valley inhabited by an iron giant

Since its construction 140 years ago, the Garabit viaduct has aroused the admiration of all. At its feet, the Truyère has dug its bed in a sumptuous valley with multiple facets.

The Garabit Viaduct and the Truyère Gorges are closely linked. Gustave Eiffel's work would not be there if the river had not carved deep, impassable gorges. In the 1870s, the extension of the railway line was considered towards the South, to connect Paris to Béziers. It took the ingenuity of Léon Boyer and Gustave Eiffel to imagine and build the Garabit viaduct, uniting the two banks of the river.

Four years of work to unveil a majestic viaduct 564 meters long and 122 meters high.

An improbable masterpiece. Registered in 1965, it will wait until 2017 to be classified as a Historic Monument. A new challenge presents itself to it, that of claiming a classification as a world heritage site. Since the end of 2017, a world heritage application procedure has brought together 6 large-arched metal viaducts in Germany, Italy, Portugal and France. The Garabit viaduct and the Viaur viaduct represent the French part.

The 1958 Scarab Mk II, one of 3 legendary vehicles built by Lance Reventlow, who at age 21, and also the heir to the Woolworth fortune, sought to challenge European dominance with American innovation and Chevrolet V8 power

This Mk II Scarab, is the second of 3 Chevy small block front engined racers, and the one that actually won the US Grand Prix in Riverside, California, against a gaggle of the biggest and best from Europe, including Phill Hill in his monster Ferrari 412S.

The Scarabs absolutely dominated American Racing through 1962, and continued to be successfully raced for several more years. But for the late 50s rule change in European Formula 1 racing limiting the engine size to 3 liters, Lance could never fulfill his dream (shared with Briggs Cunningham) of conquering European road racing with Yankee ingenuity.

And still considered by many to be the most beautiful sports car racer of it's era. And I am with them.

"Ingenuity quotient" è una definizione che trovai su Popular Science nel primo dopoguerra, mi colpì la corrispondenza con il comportamento di noi napoletani che secolarmente troviamo stratagemmi di sopravvivenza.

Qualche anno dopo mi capitò per mano un libretto di un filosofo tedesco del novecento dal titolo "La filosofia del rotto "dove ritrovai esilaranti aneddoti sul comportamento dei napoletani.

The Panamanian white-faced capuchin is considered a medium-sized monkey (about 3.9 kg or 8 lbs) and relatively long-lived, up to 50 years. They live throughout a number of regions of Costa Rica. Although common, they are not as common, nor as loud as, the much larger howler monkey. Their scientific name, Cebus imitator, literally means 'slender imitator'.

Capuchins are quite smart, too. They have been observed using tools and rubbing themselves with plant material in a manner that suggests medicinal benefits.

Being omnivores and opportunists, these monkeys are not adverse to grabbing fruit on offer at bird feeders. In a previous visit to the country, I was told by our host that a group of them opened a fridge and stole all the eggs that were put in it earlier in the day. It was in an open-air kitchen. The capuchin's ingenuity was on full display that day.

Amish cooks would clean out their Mason jars, then turn them upside down and put them on fence posts around their gardens. The intense summer sun would generate enough heat inside the jars that the fence posts would actually char — perfectly sanitizing the jars. The United Nations is working towards expanding their powers yet again. If you fail, try again: write and rewrite, package and repackage, until it’s accepted. This is another step towards world governance.

People in the far north are quite clever when it comes to solving daily problems that might arise.

When your source of water is located high on the mountain side, and your home or business is well below - you simply make your own water pipeline. Of course this only solves the problem in the summer, as your jerry-rigged pipeline will freeze solid in the winter. In winter you will be digging a hole in the ice of the nearest body of water, filling containers, and hauling them home. I never said that life in the far north was easy. 😄

Although the BD-500 family was designed and developed by Bombardier, it has become a valuable addition to the Airbus commercial product line.

Yuanyang Rice Terraces, located on the southern slopes of Ailao Mountain in Yuanyang County (part of Honghe Hani Autonomous Prefecture) and located in the south of Yunnan Province of China has been a masterpiece of the ingenuity of the Hani people for generations. Southern Ailao Mountain, with this typical tiered landscape, is famed for its unique frontier scenery.

The Hani people's ancestors came to this steep mountain area 2,500 years ago. In their struggle against the difficult terrain they successfully established the terraces, where they grew rice in order to make a living. The technology of developing fertile land on rugged mountain slopes didn't spread all over China and Southeast Asia until 14th century. The creativity of the Hani people turned this mountain area into one of artistic beauty.

The Honghe Hani rice terraces are an exceptional reflection of a resilient land management system that optimises social and environmental resources, demonstrates an extraordinary harmony between people and their environment in spiritual, ecological and visual terms, and is based on a spiritual respect for nature and respect for both the individual and the community, through a system of dual interdependence known as the ‘Man-God Unity social system’.

The couple probably wanted a long-exposure shot of The Parkway but had no tripod. So he set it on the steps to steady the camera.

A springy tree may not look as polished as a fully built catapult, but the function is the same.

I mentioned in recent post (see comments: flic.kr/p/YCsaBT) that I might begin to develop a project that I thought of just as our trip to Ohio was ending. I want to try and show through photographs what the Amish life is really all about - not just snap pics of pretty scenery. If I had had this in mind before beginning, I would have been more thoughtful with what and how I was shooting. Any thoughts/ideas from the Flickr world are welcome.

"Ingenuity" is a necessary skill in Amish life.

Taken on a recent trip to Scotland. Loved this very original postbox on Easdale Island. Unfortunately we visited during a spell of harsh blazing sunshine, so the original shot was pretty much useless as it stood. Edited in Topaz Impression 2 with added textures taken on the trip :-)

A day trip to Nottingham yesterday to pick up my son from University, which meant i had a few hours to wander the Jubilee Campus for some photography.

This shot is a reflection of the Ingenuity centre in one of the ponds, which was covered in tiny lily pads like confetti and an inquisitive duck.
