Biltmore House's iron chandelier is suspended by a single point, a thing of beauty and engineering ingenuity.
I could get a squirrel proof one but they have to eat as well even though they don't belong in this country

I had read about this behavior, but this is the first and only time I’ve ever seen it in action. Amazing!

Kinderdijk has been on my bucket list for some time and happily this trip allowed me to check this location off my lifetime shot list, I timed our arrival with the shut down for the day of the tour offices at 5:30pm so we could hang out until dark exploring this wonderful showcase of Dutch ingenuity and perseverance.
Most Dutch will know the story “The Cat and the Cradle” of Kinderdijk but for those that have not heard it the story goes that a man coming home in a massive storm in the village saw a cat leaping furiously from side to side on a floating cradle, upon investigation the cradle contained a crying baby girl that the cat Had kept in motion side to side to keep the water from sinking the cradle.
Masters of water management the Dutch have been harnessing the wind to control the water for over 1000 years, with over 26% of the Netherlands literally below sea level there is no more iconic Dutch symbol that the windmill, Kinderdijk contains 19 windmills dating from 1740 that keep the surroundings pumped dry and the land reclaimed from the water

Our local community gardens have been around for many years so the plots there have evolved their own sense of place and style - which often transcend whomever the stewarding gardener might be. Some of the most wonderful leftover artifacts are the "fences" which are, without a doubt, some of the most unique, artistic and ingenious fences I've ever seen.
Happy Fence Friday, my friends! Have an ingeniously inspiring weekend. :)
Part of the Perseverance mission to Mars, Ingenuity is the helicopter that flies in the Martian atmosphere and sends photos and videos back to Perseverance and from there to NASA on Earth. Ingenuity is more than two years into an intended 30 day mission, far exceeding expectations.
The clematis vine has become a symbol of mental strength and ingenuity because of its ability to climb up and around obstacles, twisting and spreading to reach lofty heights.
The nests these tiny hummingbirds build are amazing. They are roughly the size of a golf ball. You couldn't duplicate it with your hands and they do it all with their beak. True works of art.
Triad color art piece - Colors that are evenly spaced around the color wheel. Triadic color harmonies tend to be vibrant. “The human foot is a masterpiece of engineering and a work of art.” - Leonardo da Vinci
A female Eastern Bluebird. Bluebird nest boxes in Carden Alvar are all against the fences; most often the birds land on a rusty fence wire before entering the nest. Some enterprising photographers decided to put up a broken piece of branch around the nest box to give the birds a more natural looking perch - only to forget about the cable ties. Woke up to fog & mist last Sunday morning so decided to take a little trip over to Lawton wood to see what i could see, or not as the case may be. After about 30 mins wandering around the trees I decided to make my way down to the pool, pretty glad I did to, the shot was not an easy one to capture as the pool is fenced off for the purpose of keeping none paying photographers out & paying fishing types in, never mind as this is the result of a little ingenuity & much standing on tip toes.
"Ingenuity quotient" è una definizione che trovai su Popular Science nel primo dopoguerra, mi colpì la corrispondenza con il comportamento di noi napoletani che secolarmente troviamo stratagemmi di sopravvivenza.
Qualche anno dopo mi capitò per mano un libretto di un filosofo tedesco del novecento dal titolo "La filosofia del rotto "dove ritrovai esilaranti aneddoti sul comportamento dei napoletani.

The United Nations is working towards expanding their powers yet again. If you fail, try again: write and rewrite, package and repackage, until it’s accepted. This is another step towards world governance.
People in the far north are quite clever when it comes to solving daily problems that might arise.
When your source of water is located high on the mountain side, and your home or business is well below - you simply make your own water pipeline. Of course this only solves the problem in the summer, as your jerry-rigged pipeline will freeze solid in the winter. In winter you will be digging a hole in the ice of the nearest body of water, filling containers, and hauling them home. I never said that life in the far north was easy. 😄

Amazing sight how this marvel of design and construction is fully intact winding through the streets. Aqueduct still ported water till the 1800s.

Soaring to a height of 374 feet, the dome of Santa Maria del Fiore is a wonder of ingenuity nearly six centuries after its construction. Its grandeur and artistry were meant to outshine those of any other structure in early Renaissance Italy, elevating Florence over rival cities. Though many believed it was too big and ambitious to build, architect Filippo Brunelleschi succeeded, using methods that experts don’t fully understand even today.
The couple probably wanted a long-exposure shot of The Parkway but had no tripod. So he set it on the steps to steady the camera.
I mentioned in recent post (see comments: flic.kr/p/YCsaBT) that I might begin to develop a project that I thought of just as our trip to Ohio was ending. I want to try and show through photographs what the Amish life is really all about - not just snap pics of pretty scenery. If I had had this in mind before beginning, I would have been more thoughtful with what and how I was shooting. Any thoughts/ideas from the Flickr world are welcome.
"Ingenuity" is a necessary skill in Amish life.
I love photographing old doors. Antique doors are not just an entrance and an exit. They are a penetration into the secrets of other eras, human destinies and, if you like, into the wonderful world of art. With what love, ingenuity and taste all these ancient doors, gates, shutters, door handles, locks, bolts, menacing masks, various bizarre figures are created. You just want to feel the rough structure of the wood with your hand, touch the cold patterned metal...
