This very attractive Trillium is infected with a plant disease.
I was excited to see this White-flowered Trillium (Large-flowered Trillium) in Northport, Michigan. I thought it was different species, or variety. Janet (jlst2i) thought it was bacterial disease. Janet was correct.
Phytoplasm (aka Mycoplasma-like bacteria) infects Trillium, and the result is the green stripes in the petals. This is an early symptom. Trillium being a perennial flower, the disease progresses each year until the petals are nearly totally green.

So what is this, and how did this pic come about? lol
So firstly, I seriously doubt more than one or two people ever reads what I write here, and that's expected. I have no delusions otherwise. I mostly write all this for my kids who might see this one day, and for me, so I don't forget when I'm older.
That said, here it goes. So what I originally planned was to just work with the new poser in Firestorm. I had downloaded it at one time, but I didn't like how my world looked with the new version and went back to a previous version but decided to install the new FS on another drive. Derp. So this was really a practice session to see if I could make a frightened expression, as we're in the spooky season. Well, the more I worked with the poser, the more I liked my results.
So I got the idea to turn this into a homage to one of my favorite horror shows, The Strain.
I doubt this one will be received well at all, though. lol But that's ok right. I don't make any money doing this, I'm not famous, I'm nobody. I do this for fun and to explore my own creativity. But I do like the results personally so it's getting posted.
Most of the more intense shadowing I actually painted in myself in Photoshop by hand and did a dash of AI with it to smooth out some edges and give my hair and skin textures a little more life, but not so much to overtake my work. I think AI can be used well, but if you overdo it, you'll end up allowing it to rework the whole thing. And then it's not yours any longer.
Anyway that's it, if you like it that's great and if you don't, that's great too. lol Take care.
Oh one more thing. Don't ask me how I got that worm to look right under my skin. I had to lift that from the show's poster and worked and worked on that and suddenly it looked right and I was like "How'd I do that?" lol Honestly! So I don't know how it's done. I just got lucky. Cyas!♥

So just when you're wandering the ruined landscape and to your surprise find an apple tree with hopefully non-polluted apples, you hungrily tuck in...and hear a strange sound from a nearby building. I'm armed with my trusty Tsarknife from FOE, although its seen better days, and I'm sure my Outlander set from Somnium will help me blend in with the treeline. Time to run.

Red wasp infected by a Cordyceps (fungus) species. This fungus attacks an insect host, replaces its tissue, and sprouts stems that grow outside of its body. These stems eventually release spores into the air, infecting other hosts.
This young Mallard seems to be smiling to himself as he drifts along in the sunshine...which made me think of this lovely poem by the wonderful late great Spike Milligan. Seems quite apt to me right now ❤️ Let’s all be kind to each other.

A "fungused" fly in the characteristic pose on a golden foxtail grasshead.
This fly has been infected by the fungus Entomophthora muscae. This fungus specifically affects the fly's brain and changes its behaviour. It makes it climb to the top of the plant where it dies and the fungus then sporulates (which can be seen in this photo) .
The highest point is best for the fungus as it lets the airborne spores get the best release. The airborne spores can transmit to other flies by landing on them but interestingly it can also transmit more directly when male flies attempt to mate with deceased females infected with the fungus.
Anyway, I hope everyone's FlyDay is going better that this fly's one!

A fungus infected with a Pin mould ( most likely be Spinellus fusiger / Jochpilz art which is our most common Pin mould on Mycena fungi species ), New Forest
Saw quite a few Harlequins last Sunday, infected with the Laboulbeniales fungus.
Shrewsbury - Shropshire
Originally created for deer hunting, Richmond Park now has 630 red and fallow deer that roam freely within much of the park. A cull takes place each November and February to ensure numbers can be sustained about 200 deer are culled annually and the meat is sold to licensed game dealers.Some deer are also killed in road accidents, through ingesting litter such as small items of plastic, or by dogs; three deer were killed by dogs in 2012.Many of the deer in Richmond Park are infected with a bacterium called Borrelia burgdorferi which can be transmitted to humans through a tick bite, causing Lyme disease.
The park is an important refuge for other wildlife, including woodpeckers, squirrels, rabbits, snakes, frogs, toads, stag beetles and many other insects plus numerous ancient trees and varieties of fungi. It is particularly notable for its rare beetles.
Richmond Park supports a large population of what are believed to be ring-necked (or rose-ringed) parakeets. These bred from birds that escaped or were freed from captivity.
