After returning home early afternoon I decided t go for a quick walk and indeed it was a quick walk as there was a strong wind blowing and out was too cold!!

Day 308, Nov. 4, 2008: I did my part and then washed my hands of it. Done.
The last time I had washed my hands in one of those part basin, part fountain, part sink fixtures, I was probably in elementary school. Election day found me once again in an elementary school, in a bathroom with short toilets, no mirror on the wall, and water streams I commanded with my foot.
I am weary of back biting, name calling, untruths, ugliness. I’m bombarded with the spin, the bullshitting, the hype. I’m tired of the divisiveness. I’m tired of the sham, of the slick propaganda. I just want to hear something real and genuine and completely honest, but you don’t hear those things in politics. People don’t want imperfect presidents, though God knows we’re all imperfect. Somewhere along the way disillusionment set in; I grew hard.
I waited patiently in line with my community, my neighbors, my husband. In front of me was a woman and then a man, 30 years old and voting for the first time, he said.
“Sad, right? I’m 30 and I’ve never voted.”
Suddenly he grew nervous he wasn’t in the right polling location. We eased his fears. We listened politely, we smiled. We learned he was in the Navy, got a tattoo on his forearm while in Guam that he doesn't remember. His mother was not pleased. For a month during the summer, when he was home with his parents, he wore long sleeve shirts.
He speaks fluent Arabic. He is taking some classes at Michigan State University so he can learn to read and write in Arabic. He wants to become a translator in Iraq.
“I need this,” he said, as if he were the only one around.
“I need this.” And I softened a little.
So today I did my part. I voted. I’ll never find my answers in policies; I’ll never find my passion in politicians. For me, it’s all about the flesh and blood people, without artifice, without pretension, without judgment.
I guess I also washed away some of my own ugliness. And I allowed myself a little room to hope, because I need this, too.

What is Amaretto?
Amaretto is a liqueur with an almond flavor, but surprisingly, it may or may not contain almonds. The standard base of the liqueur is primarily made from apricot pits, and may contain any number of added spices and flavorings. The original version was made in Saronno, Italy. Amaretto is Italian for "a little bitter."
Amaretto History
The Lazzaroni family of Saronno, Italy, claims the title as the inventors of amaretto. They invented the Lazzaroni amaretto cookies around 1786 for the King of the region. Then in 1851, they created the Amaretto Liqueur, which consisted of an infusion of their cookies with a little caramel for color.
Another legend from the Reina family (who formerly worked for the Lazzaroni family) tells of amaretto being created by a widow who posed for Renaissance painter Bernardino Luini in 1525. The widow fell in love with the painter and made her amaretto potion for him. Her original recipe has purportedly been handed down from generation to generation without change and is currently marketed as Disaronno® Originale Liqueur.
